Mission: Lost Souls
Location: USS Grissom
Timeline: MD2, 0000 hours SD70256.08 January 8th, 2395

**Synopsis - In Main Medical Quarantine Zone 2, two sentients were found in cyrostasis pod 1 of 2, the other cyrostasis pod being empty along with the other two stasis pods being empty. Those two Sentients were a Female Mephetian Adult 24 (biological age showing 17) and a Female Terran/Rigellian Child of 6.

Doctor Michael Ki had found other stasis pods in Main Medical QZ 1 and Secondary Medical QZ 1 and 2, none of them contained any other crew.

The only two patients found to be thawed and decompressed are CFCO Lt. Cmdr Save'ena Tillatix, USS Merlin, and Sierra Barstow, daughter of Commander John Barstow of the USS Merlin. The patients were transported from their cyrostasis pod in the Grissom's isolation chamber and into in a bio-bed, one each, in main medical of the Grissom behind a force field acting as a decompression barrier. Both patients are doing well considering being taken out of Cyro Stasis early.

Across the force field barrier stood Commander Apollo Barstow and Lt. Colonel Kachiko Bayushi are waiting for the pressures to equalize across the barrier and for the sick bay bio-beds to signal no contamination or biohazard associated with the two patients. Once that occurs, they will go in to check on Barstow's daughter and the CFCO of the USS-Merlin. End Synopsis**

***2 hours later***

Sav churred gently in her light doze. She felt too uncomfortable inside for anything deeper as she had Achey spots inside. Fortunately, those achey spots seemed to be 'seeping' away, and in effect, were as the cold spots within her warmed up as her body worked on healing anything affected by having areas within having been colder by tens of degrees versus the normal single digits. Her ears flicking and following sounds showed she was healing and cognizant, not slipping into any warning coma sleep.

Cara sat on a rolling stool by the child's biobed and added Physician's Notes to the chart. All was silent in the Iso Unit except for the hypnotic rhythm of the monitors. Cara glanced over at the nurse's desk where the nurse and tech were talking in quiet whispers...both looking a bit weary due to having spent so much time in the decompression atmosphere. Her attention was brought back to the child's monitor when the heart rate accelerated, setting off an alarm. Cara looked at the girl and saw she had arrived in REM sleep. She stood up and switched off the alarm then went to the foot of the bed and uncovered the girl's feet. She ran her thumbnail up the sole of Sierra's foot and watched as her toes curled. Cara repeated the test on Sierra's other foot and nodded to herself when she got the same reaction. She replaced the warming blanket and walked back to the head of the bed and placed her hand on the girl's forehead, gently stroking the child's head. "Sierra? Can you hear me?" she said softly and glanced at the decompression level on the monitor. She glanced at the tech and nodded towards the door then she looked back at her patient. "Sierra?" she said, softly.

Sierra moaned softly and slowly her eyelids fluttered open.

"Hello, sweetie," Cara said, softly and smiled warmly at the girl. "I'm Dr. O'Reilly. Can you look at my finger?" She held her index finger in front of Sierra's eyes.

"Which one?" Sierra asked, rubbing her eyes, then looked back at the doctor's finger.

Cara chuckled. "Both," she said with a smile. "Watch them with just your eyes. Don't move your head...OK?" She moved her finger from side to side then up and down and watched the child's eyes track it. "Very good. Your vision will clear soon. Are you in any pain?" she asked. When Sierra shook her head, Cara smiled and tucked the blanket around her. "Someone's here to see you."

The tech nodded and went over to the control panel by the IU's door and shut off the decompression. "Deactivate Iso Field," he said to the computer and a few seconds later the pressure around the sealed doors released with a hiss.

"Just Commander Barstow and Dr. Ki for now," Cara instructed.

John stood up from where he was sitting and stuffed the PADD he'd been using to follow engineerings progress in his rear waistband of his pants. He walked into the room and paused at the door, looking to his daughter. She looked tired and a little beat up after her ordeal, but, looked ok otherwise. The CO made a note to thank Sav as he walked over to Sierra and just pulled her into a tight hug, his eyes starting to water as she grabbed his neck tightly and started to cry, "daddy!"

"It seems the treatment is doing well, and both patients should be free to leave the chamber in about 48 hours." Ki said to Commander Barstow. "The Metphin may take a little bit more time, as I confess I am unfamiliar with her anatomy." He smiled broadly nearly beaming. "However, it seems that Cara here has taken quite the attachment to the patients."

Still in the Observation Suite, Kachiko felt herself shiver and her eyes start leaking at the squeak of 'Daddy!' from young Sierra. It made her miss Reiko even more, hoping that they could get the Merlin up and running soon, so her daughter could join her aboard soon.

"Boss," Kachiko repressed a flinch as Rita set a hand on a shoulder. "Colonel, we have everything under control. You have had a long day, Ma'am."

Kachiko shook her head, "No. Miss Tillatix knows me more than she knows anyone else. I need to be here for her when she wakes up."

"Okay, Boss. I could wake you up when she comes to?" Rita offered. To which Kachiko shook her head again, "I am okay, Rita. I have been forced to stay awake a lot longer before. I'm pretty small but I'm pretty durable." Unsaid was that the forced wakefulness she mentioned had been torture with the intent to break her spirit and make her an obedient slave.

Sav was still in a light doze. She had already been on light duty from the emergency surgeries on Starbase 306 to rescue her before that damnable mesh before it caused her death, and she had also had her left kidney and left ovary replaced, not to mention a whole lot of reconstructive surgery done to repair internal and external scar tissue, as well as get her to looking and feeling fully female to help her in her recovery. While her body would have been in a protective mode with the strangers about, that Kachiko was nearby and sensed by her kept her relaxed and recovering from being yanked out prematurely from the cyrostasis pod. Her light dreams were of playing with Sierra and of being out with Melody and David Scarlet.

'Sierra' flicked across her mind as Sav woke from her light doze to look over at Sierra, only to find Apollo and Doctor O'Reilly with her. She smiled and churred to herself, glad to see her boss-man reunited with his daughter. She now remembered 'Kachiko' and glanced about, frowning that her Cadet Advisor was not nearby. Yet, she could sense her. Sav glanced about and saw Kachiko across the way. A grin spread across her muzzle as she reached up a hand to gently wave at Kachiko, glad to see another familiar face. She had so much to tell Kachiko, now that she could, and also tell her about what happened to her so many years ago. Sav spoke out gently, without realizing it, saying, "Hi Kachiko."

Kachiko smiled, standing and stepping through into the no-longer isolated isolation unit. She likely looked a little bit younger than she did before, not to mention that her usual pitch-black hair was now shock-white. She made sure to circumvent the father-daughter reunion and finally got to the Mephetian's biobed, "~How are you feeling, doll?~"

Sav looked over Kachiko with a smile, as well as a raised eyebrow and ears flicking. She returned, ~Better, now that Sierra and I are rescued. *happy sigh* So much has happened since I arrived at the Merlin, so much I can finally share with you now that the imprints are gone. But, it can wait for later. *churring* Yer hair, Fashion statement? And yer lookin' good, Kachiko, yer lookin' good.~

Kachiko frowned, "~No, actually. It's a permanent change, from radiation exposure. I really don't want to discuss that event right now, not while you're still recovering.~" Save'ena could feel unbound sorrow and grief tinging the Marine's thoughts.

Sav reached out her hands to enclose Kachiko's hands, then began rubbing the back of them. She sent, ~Ouchie, sorry fer mah thoughtlessness. We'll both catch up, whena Ah'm recovered more. *sigh* Ifin yah noticed, Ah ama on light duty.... getting left kidney and ovary replaced while recoverin froma poisonin' isa hard ona body. We'll talk more, ah promise.~ She glanced about the room, then asked out loud, "When do Ah get a room, ana when do yah get some sleep?"

Kachiko smiled lopsidedly at Save'ena, "Probably after we get Merlin up and running. The Grissom here doesn't have a whole lot of room."

Cara had already thrown up her hands at being ignored. Decompression was inly half of the isolation process. There was no way if knowing if the pods had been contaminated by anything and carried it back to the Grissom. But protocol was obviously not a priority to these people. "Not my sickbay," she said to Kachiko. "Talk to Dr. Ki.". With that she removed her iso suit and tosed it into the bun then left the unit. She wasn't used to her authority being ignored. She needed space to cool off before her Irish blood caused her to say something she would regret.

=/\=Llewellyn to Commander Barstow.=/\= Cale's voice issued from the Commander's combadge.

Apollo ignored the call for a few moments as Sieera cried into his shoulder and shook, "it's ok now," he said softly before looking up to the ceiling, =/\=what is it, Commander?=/\= he asked and moved to sit on the bed, pulling Sierra onto his lap, her sobs filtering through the comm every so often.

=/\=Sir, we've got full power restored to the Merlin and we're attempting to fire up the engines in the next 10-15 minutes,=/\= Llewellyn stated. He sounded imminently pleased with himself.

Sav heard this and she sat upright off of the biobed. She still held Kachiko's hands, though, as that was their connection. She said to Apollo, "Sir, ready to man the helm, sir."

Before the Captain responded, Kachiko shook her head, "Calm, Save'ena. I sincerely doubt you'll be ready for duty for awhile yet. You and little Sierra need time to recover. Not to mention that I don't think that the ship is quite ready to get underway. Right, Boss?"

The CO looked up and took a breath before answering, "yes," he said simply, not meaning to come off rude, but, all his bravado and trying to be a CO before anything else having disappeared once he was holding his daughter, "rest, Commander, we have much to talk about after you do," he added in a genuine caring voice, =/\=acknowledged Cale, outstanding. let me know when your ready to pull her back into space=/\=

Sav churred gently before answering, "Yes Sir, Ma'am." She laid back down onto the biobed and shifted to be more comfortable. She needed to get some snatches of sleep here and there to let her body heal from the decompression and Cyro effects, besides the soon to be almost hourly visits by medical personnel to check on her progress through the night.

Michael excused himself from the patients and from everyone that was present in the Grissom Sick Bay. There were two things that bothered him greatly. The first why were there so many pods and no one in them. Secondly, why were these two put into stasis. He went to his office and read then reread the scans. There did not seem to be anything off at the moment but that could change. Ki cocked an eyebrow as he heard the report that the Merlin was almost ready to launch. Michael was unsure if these two were to be considered medical miracles or medical mysteries. Either way once Barstow had his moment of triumph Michael will get the Commander to spill his beans.
