Today Melody had electd to relax on the beach while Draxx and Sansa had gone fishing. Melody recognized that Sansa wanted to spend some quality time with her dad. Also, it gave Melody a chance to just sit and do nothing. Fishing was not her cup of tea.
Sansa and Draxx sat in a small boat in the middle of the lake. Sansa was holding her fishing rod, watching Draxx preparing some bait.
"Right princess spear this on the end of your rod and then I'll show you how to cast off," he said. He waited 10 seconds expecting her to get all squeamish and him have to do it but was surprised in that she just took the grub and speared right in the middle.
As Draxx described the intricacies of fishing, Sansa lowered the rod over the side of the boat. Draxx was still epically describing a battle of wills between man and fish.
As Draxx was explaining intently the whole fishing experience, Sansa felt something tug at the end of her reel. Draxx hadn't noticed, as Sansa started to reel in what she had caught.
"You see the spiney fish is cunning and elusive. Its very intelligent, knows how to elude us …… don't be disappointed if you don't catch one straight away. I have been trying for years,"
Sansa let out a small cough to get her fathers attention then showed him what was dangling on her reel. "Is this it?" she asked.
Draxx's mouth opened and closed multiple times ….. "Son of a ….." his eyes landed on his little girl. "Ferengi …….." was the only thing he could think of to say that was not leading into swearing territory. "How did you dop that?"
Sansa looked at her father for a moment, She could tell he was rather upset that she had managed to land this fish without really trying. She down played what she had done. “I’m not really sure. I just did it how you’re were describing and... This happened. I’m sure it was beginners luck Dad.”
"Right …" he said sadly. "Of course princess."
Sansa looked at her father with sympathetic eyes. "Come on Dad. I'm sure you'll catch one today. You just have to keep trying."
"Ive been trying for the better part of 15 years," he muttered.
Sansa smiled reassuringly as she lowered her bait back over the side of the boat. “I bet this is the year that you finally catch...”. Her voice trailed off as she felt another tug on fishing reel and she wound up her hook with... Another Spiney fish on it.
Draxx's eyes bulged. "For the love of ……" he stopped himself short. "I think we have done enough fishing today," he decided.
Sansa looked at her father for a moment and could see his... disappointment. “Ok dad. But I still want to spend the rest of the day with you. How about we get a bite to eat and then... Shopping?”
"Well I did see a nice burger place when I was looking round and you guys were at orientation. Wanna split onion rings kiddo?" he asked rowing them back in the direction of where they had hired the boat. "And shopping …. you do realise we are going to have to agree a time limit there. For my sanity," he joked.
Sansa chuckled. “That sounds great dad.” She said as the boat headed back to shore. “Don’t worry, I won’t drag you round too many shops.”
