Dinner and conversation

A waiter showed Melody and Draxx to a cozy table in an alcove, with a small candle creating a romantic atmosphere. “Can I bring you some drinks?”
“A bottle of red wine please and two glasses.” Melody replied. “I would like a nice big ribeye steak, medium with sautéed potatoes, creamed spinach and mushrooms.
The waiter made a note on his padd. “Excellent choice miss. And for you Sir?”
"Oh the same but with a side of onion rings," Draxx said.
"Very good sir," he added another note and disappeared.
Draxx place a hand over hers and smiled. "Soooo …."
She raised an eyebrow. “Sooo... You said you had something you wanted to talk to me about?”
The waiter returned with the bottle of wine and poured two glasses. Melody took a sip and waited.
"Okay … well this is probably the last thing you ever expected of me. Or I expected of me but I really love our life together. Our little family. I was wondering if it was time for me to grow up and suggest we make it permanent," he said suddenly.
Melody coughed and had to put her wine glass down as Draxx caught her completely off guard. After she regained her composure she looked at him surprised. “You’re serious? I thought you’d ask a bit more... romantically.”
He stood up off his chair and to the flabbergasted woman in front of him knelt down. Fishing out of his pocket he produced a small box which he opened and offered to her. "Melody Jones. Thank you for putting up with all my fish stories. Thank you for giving me another chance to be in your life and most importantly thank you for the wonderful gift that is our daughter. Would you do me the honour of becoming me "official ball and chain …." he grinned. "No no, my wife?"
Melody gazed at the ring then back at Draxx. “Aren’t you full of surprises. Yes! Of course Yes!” She lent forward and kissed him. Then she whispered playfully in his ear. “I’ll let it slide this once, but call me the old ball and chain again and you’ll find yourself scrubbing the plasma transfer conduits.
She held out her hand as Draxx slipped the ring on her finger. “Have you made any thoughts as to planning the ceremony? We could always ask Admiral Blackwood to officiate.”
"Well, when we get back to the Merlin we can plan everything, don't worry about things Mel. Enjoy yourself. I just proposed and you said yes. We need champagne," he waved in the direction of a waiter and then noticed everyone in the restaurant was watching them. The broke out into applause.
Melody acknowledged the unexpected applause as the waiter came over with a bottle of champagne and two flute glasses. "So what made you start thinking about all this?" She asked Draxx as he took his seat again. "Not that's it's unwelcome but, you did rather catch me off guard."
"Well … the captain died and it made me realise it could have very easily been you. And I love our life together now. I want to be in yours forever and show you that your everything to me. I didn't think I would ever want to get tied down but you changed me Mel," He said after reflection.
Melody looked at him and smiled. “I always suspected you were a romantic at heart. And I think that’s one of the things I love about you.”
She raised her champagne glass. “Cheers.”
