ON:

Kyhl took a deep breath as she took her seat in the conference room. She was used to giving news, bad news in particular, but it was never something that got easier with time or practice. She was happy to see Doctor Nir'anyar and Lieutenant McPhee had managed to join them. Considering this was something the three of them had worked on, it was fair that they all continue their work together on this.

"I've asked Counselor Miller to join us as well." Mathias remarked. "She needs to be involved, as well." motioning toward the counselor with a smile.

Melody entered, having just finished going through her paperwork for the Brass and was looking forward to some rest when the Doctor, Lieutenant Nir'anyar, Lieutenant McPhee and Caroline turned up. From the look on the Doctors face, this was not a social call. Fay had just finished with Starfleet Command and had joined them. She and Melody sat down to listen as the Doctor made her report.

Anya had arrived with the Chief Medical Officer and Lieutenant McPhee, both obviously accustomed to using this room but to Anya is was imposing. This room was the senior officers' meeting room, something she was not part of and felt it all the more readily when surrounded by said senior officers all encased in this imposing room. She kept her hands clasped together on her lap.

Caroline didn't meet Mathias's eyes but could tell Anya was out of her comfort zone. She flashed her friend what she hoped was a comforting smile.

Mathias wondered about Caroline's reaction to him. He won't address it until at a later time.

The doctor waited until the Captain was seated before beginning.

"Sir, we've run several scans of Sansa and Fay, as well as using a previous scan of Sansa as a baseline. We've noticed some anomalies in the readings that yourself, Sansa, and Fay should be made aware of." Kyhl motioned to Doctor Nir'anyar. "Doctor, if you could please display our readings on the main viewscreen."

"From your tone Doctor, I'm sensing something is not quite right..." Melody said cautiously, looking at her daughter concerned.

Anya stood, feeling very little in comparison to the others in the room and she couldn't understand why. She had met the Commander and had gotten along with her very well. McPhee was a friend as was Commander Miller. Even Fay and Sansa seemed to be two individuals she got along with so why was she feeling so at odds with herself at this moment.
Anya reached the monitor and accessed her data on the medical database and pulled it up on the large display.

"Then let's cut to the chase. It appears that the longer Fay stays with Sansa there are some complications." Kyhl continued.

Melody's level of concern grew, Fay accepted what the Doctor was saying calmly. "That would explain why I am started to get tired easier. Also why Owan warned me not to remain in one body for an extended period of time."

"I'm concerned that Fay is getting weaker the longer that they stay together as well," Kyhl said slowly, looking over to Fay. "I'm not sure how much longer they can both safely maintain this union."

Sansa emerged for a moment, looking worried. "Is there anything we can do?" Fay emerged again, sounding a lot calmer than Sansa was. "Before I left, Owan told me that none of us had left our planet before but inhabiting a human host could be exhausting. Up until recently, I thought he might have been exaggerating but with this latest development... He did say that transferring into a new host would alleviate this fatigue and I would regain my strength but when that started to happen I should consider coming home.

She thought for a moment. "During my talks with Starfleet Command, they mentioned there was another volunteer willing to experience my consciousness in their body."

Melody looked over at Kyhl, "Doctor?"

"Obviously if that is an option, we'll have to explore it." Kyhl said with a nod. "We just need to figure out how to do it safely."

Caroline at up a little higher. She understood that they would need to do something to get Faye back to her people but everything was screaming out was this wise in her head to get another party involved.

Anya couldn't help but think that there would be plenty of volunteers should Fay need it. She herself would have been in that list of volunteers. To save a life as interesting and unique as Fay but to also experience to merging of souls... "Fascinating!" the word slipped from her lips before she could moderate herself

Fay spoke up. "I will inform Starfleet Command to ask them to have the volunteer ready. If you would be willing Doctor, I would like you present at the exchange to make sure that both Sansa and the new host suffer no ill effects from my presence."

"Of course." Kyhl nodded. "We'll need to make sure everyone is alright including yourself Fay." She looked up at the screen and then back to Fay. "This may have to be sooner than later. The risk will keep increasing the weaker your presence becomes."

Melody nodded "Well, not meaning to hog the spotlight away from our guest but I also have news. Mathias here already knows and Doctor you might as well know as I will be needing your serves over the next 9 months." She beamed a big smile. "I'm pregnant!"

Fay let Sansa take over who immediately hugged her Mother. "That's great news Mom. I'm so happy for you. Do you mean this baby will grow at a normal rate?" she asked carefully.

Melody nodded "Hopefully, Caroline has been giving me some injections that were devised by Starfleet medial. I'm hoping they've worked, right Caroline?"

"Yes," Caroline said simply. Not sure how much the Captain wanted sharing. Certainly not the side effects.

"I would be my pleasure." Kyhl said with a smile. "Congratulations. You do know this means no more away missions for the next while."

Anya was caught short... she needed to review the Commanders medical file. Also, why would the ship's Counsellor be administering medications without the knowledge of the medical teams. This would be something she would bring up with the Chief Medical Officer at a later time. She had to recover herself quickly before anyone spotted her shock but sent a pointed glare at Caroline, silently communicating that they needed a conversation.

Caroline sensed Anya's reaction. Her confusion. The other woman wasn't quick enough to cover it. "I'm still a registered doctor Anya. I won't ever give my license up even when I'm focusing solely on counseling. The Captain came to me as I have a history working in medical R&D and I have been involved in some trials. Also, I was acting CMO at that point when we started things. I will share with you all the data you need. Also remember you always have another pair of hands if push comes to shove,"

Kyhl watched the back and forth between Caroline and Anya with a slight frown. "We can take this news aside for a future discussion. For now, let's just join the Commander in her celebration and then help Sansa and Fay."

Melody bit her bottom lip. "Would one of you mind having a quick scan just to see that the baby is growing normally? I know it would make Draxx feel a lot better," she asked Kyhl and Caroline.

"Of course." Kyhl reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out the medical tricorder. She stood up and walked over to Melody and ran the probe a few inches over her abdomen. Smiling, she nodded.

"You're about seven weeks along. Development is on track." Kyhl said. She clicked on the display of the tricorder. "Would you like to hear the heartbeat?"

Tears of joy were running down Melody's Face. She wiped them off and nodded enthusiastically.

The medical tricorder chirped and soon there was the tell-tale rapid and rhythmic beating. "We'll have to do a proper check-in Medical later, but so far things look to be within the norm."

Mathias kept quiet, watching the interplay, between the others. He did smile at Melody giving a nod, he kept his thoughts silent, there was just too much going on at the time. Besides, there was the aspect of Fay, and now who would be the new host.

Kyhl sat back in her seat and looked back at Sansa and Fay. "And we're going to work on how to safely transfer Fay right away."

Sansa listened to the heartbeat for a moment before she let Fay take over. "I can perform the transfer. Before I left, Owan gave me detailed instructions on how to perform it. It would require a secluded room with no interruptions, as much concentration is required. Both parties have to be awake and as long as the new host is relaxed and gives their mind freely, there should be no problems. Still, having the Doctor there would be a wise precaution."

"Of course." Kyhl said with a nod. "I'll make sure everything runs smoothly as possible."

Melody forced herself to focus on the discussion at hand. "How soon can the new host be here?"

Fay replied "Starfleet said it would only be a couple of days. I should be able to maintain my strength in Sansa for that time."

"I'd like to continue to do regular scans in the meantime to make sure things don't get worse." Kyhl offered. This wasn't just one patient she had to worry about. It was two patients in an unusual situation.

"I am thinking that I probably shouldn't be there when this takes place." Mathias remarked. "If it's best for things to be quiet, and peaceful. I don't want to be there to be any sort of distraction." Mathias was serious about this, he knew that he created some feelings within Fay and he really didn't want to jeopardize the procedure.

Fay's face fell and she went over to Mathias and took both his hands in hers and spoke to him quite passionately. "No, please... I want you to be there. Your presence gives me strength. It means a lot to me. Also, when I'm in my new host I could use a familiar face, someone to help me. I know Sansa will but... please, say you'll come?"

Even Sansa was surprised by the level of emotion in her voice.

Caroline had stayed quiet through most of the meeting but she couldn’t see Faye in pain like this regardless to anything that had happened or not happened as was the case with her and the science chief.

She reached out and put a hand over Faye's shoulder trying to convey some comfort. “It’s okay. A familiar face would certainly help your right.”

She turned to Mathias. “She needs you there. It will help with the transition process not hinder it.”

Mathias looked at both women, glanced around the room, then back to Fay. He couldn't turn his back on them, on her.

"Very well, I will be there." giving Fay's hands a comforting squeeze. He looked up towards Caroline, gave an inner sigh, then looked back at Fay. "I won't let you go through the change without me there." smiling pulling her into an embrace giving a kiss on top of her head. "It will be okay." Mathias released Fay and stepped back. "Until then, I've got to go talk with my grandparents and let them know I am here. I forgot to do so yesterday."

Melody spoke "Very good. Thank you all for coming to me with this. By all means, keep an eye on Fay's condition and let me know when the new host is ready for transfer as I intend to be there as well. Lieutenant Mcphee, you can go and call your Grandparents. Unless there is anything else, Fay will you join me and Draxx for dinner, I believe he has something he wants to discuss with Sansa."

Mathias nodded, took a look at both Caroline, Anya, and then Fay/Sansa then left.

Anya followed Mathias from the room, regretting her reaction to finding the medical staff had been negated, and knowing full well she owed an apology to her friend not to mention the Chief Medical Officer for embarrassing her in front of everyone.

"I'll do some research and get things prepared." Kyhl said as she stood up to leave as well. Voluntary transfer of knowledge was one thing but whole consciousness was something entirely different.

Melody smiled. "Thank you Doctor."
