Mathias bit his lip as they removed his now burnt uniform, very glad that Anya had given him the pain killer. He decided to use some humour. "Well, I can now say what it is like to get the business end of what ever it was that hit me. Is it going to scar so I would look heroic, When I take my shirt off, will I look sexy with a scar?" a lopsided smile. "though there was a worried look in his eyes, as he hoped it wouldn't mess with him being able to continue his drawing and wood working.
"If you keep moving around and squirming I may just take the arm off and save me some effort!"
Anya scolded him as she continued trying to pry the burnt uniform from the charred flesh of his arm. It was delicate work and if she wasn't careful it would leave a scar, or worse, if she didn't do this right he could loose some of the functionality of the arm altogether.
Miles kept watch, and snickered at Mathias's comment. Turning to look back, Miles moved over to look at the wound. "This is from a Klingon disruptor. Good thing it was a glancing shot, or you might not have an arm, or be here at all. How are the Klingons involved in this...?" Muttering to himself in Cardassian, Miles moved back to the door to keep watch.
"Zoey is it?" Anya looked over to the phaser wielding teal clad officer she had yet to be formally introduced too. "Could you find me a dermal regenerator from the supply cabinet behind you!"
It was fortuitous that they had managed to find one of the medical prefabs untouched by the raiding party, but they were not able to engaged the lights which made Anya's job all the more difficult.
It was difficult seeing Mathias wounded, but true to his form, he had that weird sense of humor. Hearing Anya, she looked up and nodded, turning she got the dermal regenerator and handed it to Anya, wiping her hands on the pants of her uniform. She really had no words right now. It was alot to take in, her first attack, shooting the phazer. She had a fleeting thought wondering if it got easier.
"I'm Doctor Nir'anyar but everyone calls me Anya" she took a moment to formally introduce herself as she took the dermal regenerator and placed it to one side as she continued to work on Mathias' arm, which was now clear of the charred fabric. She was cleaning the blood from the wound to make the full extent of the damage easier to gauge.
"Zoey, Zoey Hawkins." She stepped closer to watch Anya work, slipping her hand in Mathias good one as not to cause him pain, giving him a little moral support. "Is it true? Will he have a scar or is he just dreaming he will look like one of the warriors from the old movies?"
"Right now, I have no interest in making him look more or less manly... All I want to do is save his arm. Cosmetics can be dealt with at a more suitable time!"
Anya snapped at Zoey, the stress of the situation flaring her already delicate mental state. The horrors of the Reman mines at the forefront of her memory, the smells, the sounds. All of it similar to this situation.
Obviously someone didn't understand the idea of breaking the tension! But Zoey kept her mouth shut as she glanced up towards Mathias. She gave a hesitant smile to him as she looked back at his wound.
She finally took up the devise Zoey had collected for her and began to run it over the wound, sealing the charred flesh and knitting together the dermas that had moments before been blackened and charred.
"There... not my best work but at least it is still the same length as the other arm!"
"Much obliged, Anya and Zoey," Mathias said, "And I am glad that it is still the same length, which would make for some difficulties to adjust my wardrobe, if it weren't" moving to take the rest of his upper tunic off. Once his uniform tunic was off, Mathias In a mock drama personality, he place his good hand upon his forehead, "It would be such a travesty for me to lose my impeccable wardrobe and have to get it altered." he gave a sideways glance towards Anya and Zoey, just to see if his attempt to alleviate the tension in the air would work.
Zoey could not help the little smirk that appeared on her face as she shook her head at him.
Anya for her part was unamused and frowned at him, or at least the closest approximation she could muster given her Benzite lineage.
Without looking back Miles added his two cents, "Don't frown Doctor, this is how Mathias deals with stress. He's actually an accomplished singer, actor, and musician. If there are any scars left once you finish doctoring him up on the Merlin, he'll at least have a story to tell the ladies."
Rubbing her hands up and down her arms she tried to analyze what was happening. Running simulations about fighting was actually much different than when you really had someone shooting at you.
"Now what do we do?" Anya asked, still aware that the fighting outside was still raging. "Do you think we could call Merlin or might the thugs pick up on the attempt?"
Mathias gave a nod, "Sorry Anya, just trying to allay my feelings of worry by making jokes, and also to try to lighten up the tension that we, well at least I am feeling a bit stressed." speaking rather plainly. "So no harm right? As for calling the Merlin, with what is going on out there, perhaps the thugs won't come find us if we do signal the ship and maybe, when we do signal we can probably move to another location, just in case. "
He looked over towards Zoey, "So sis, you okay? That was some mighty fine shooting you did out there."
Zoey looked at up Mathias. "I guess doing well at the shooting range and the simulations took over. I have never actually fired at a real blooded person.
Now Miles looked at the other three. "I tried to contact the Merlin. Something close-by is jamming us. We were set up, that much is evident. Were I a true Cardassian Commander, this place would become slag and the world ruined. However, we are from Star Fleet. The perpetrators will be found and held accountable for their actions. Now, the sound of combat seems to have lessened and maybe moved away from here, shall we take a chance and try to hook back up with the marines?"
Mathias nodded, "if the good doctor is finished that is."
"I am for now!" she added pointedly, making it known without saying the words that he would be needed in sickbay once this fiasco was over so she could treat him fully. She took her phaser back from the XO having a feeling that she may be needing it in short order.
Smiling as the good doctor retrieved her sidearm, Miles looked around their hideout. "Anya is there anything in here that you want us to bring in case of more phaser burns, or other wounds? If so then lets grab them and hook back up with the rest of our away team."
"I have enough painkillers and with the dermal regenerator I should be able to deal with any combat triage in good order now!"
She said, standing up and slinging her medical kit over her shoulder again and grabbing up her tricorder and placing it back in its holster on her hip. Possibly with the exception of Zoey she had a feeling she had the least amount of combat experience compared to the others but she had no intention of allowing that to slow her down. She had survived much worse than this. "Ready to move when you are Commander!"
"Ready when you are Commander." Zoey pushed her glasses up on her nose. "What is that old saying, "Let's get this party started"
Miles smiled at his team, then opened the door and held it for them to exit. "Stick close to the buildings until we run out of them, then run in zig zag patterns until we get to the Admin building." As the other three exit, Miles keeps an eye out for targets.
'In a zig zag pattern' he said... what did that mean or was it simply just to run in a zig zag pattern? Anya decided she would be the last to leave and see what the others did and follow suit, not wanting to ask the question at a time like this. Instead she pulled her phaser up and made sure it was set to stun as she followed the others from the structure.
Amidst phasers and disruptor shots, the small party makes it to the Marine contingent at the Admin building. Though winded from the run, Miles catches the closest marine, "Let Scarlet know we're here, and that we're the last ones I know of to get here."
