Melody had returned to their guest house after spending most of the day on the beach. She was still waiting for a Draxx and Sansa to return from their fishing expedition when the comm system beeped.
“Commander Jones. There’s a subspace com link for you from Starbase 501, Admiral Blackwood.”
Melody moved over to the terminal and answered “Put him through.”
The monitor came to life with a human male in his late fifties with short brown hair that was just starting to grey a little. “Commander Jones. I hope I’m not disturbing you.”
Melody shook her head. “Of course not Admiral. What can I do for you?
“The refit of the Merlin is proceeding ahead of schedule and should be completed by the day after tomorrow. Also, Starfleet Command is extremely pleased with your handling of the latest incident with the Borg and have decided to give you command of the Merlin officially.” He smiled. “Congratulations Commander.”
Melody was speechless for a moment before she replied. “Thank you Sir. Any word on that fourth pip” she added, trying to keep a straight face.
The Admiral chuckled “Come now Commander Jones, all in good time. Let’s see how you handle the big chair for a while and then we’ll talk. I'll be in touch when you get back to the Merlin with your new mission. Blackwood out.”
The monitor went dead just as Draxx and Sansa walked in. "Mom, I'm meeting a friend tonight if that's ok?"
Melody nodded "That's fine Sweetie. I think I'm going to take your father out for a meal. We have some celebrating to do. I've been given Command of the Merlin offically by Starfleet Command."
Sansa ran over to her and gave her a big hug. "Mom, that's great news!"
Melody held her daughter tight for a moment before she looked over at Draxx. "So, did you finally manage to catch than darn fish yet?"
"Well Sansa did," Draxx said his face a mixture of emotions. Disappointment that he still hadn't caught this damn fish but secretly proud of his daughter. He placed the fishing rods, tackle bag and ice box down. Opening the box lid he showed Melody. "So this was dinner," he quipped. "But it will keep. Come here. Let me congratulate you properly." He pulled her into a kiss and whispered, "Congratulations Captain."
Melody wrapped her arms around Draxx and returned the kiss. “Why thank you. Come on. Have a shower and change. I’m taking you out. There’s a nice steak restaurant not far from here. I think you’ll like it. I’ll throw on that little black dress i know you like.” She added with a wink.
"Mmmmmmm well that does make for a consolatory prize," Draxx winked. "Actually this is ideal. I had something I wanted to talk to you about and a nice date night out with you would be a nice setting for it."
Melody raised an eyebrow. “Ooh colour this girl intrigued. Give me 10 minutes and then I’ll be ready.” On her way to her bedroom she kissed Sansa on the cheek. “Have a good tie Sweetie.”
“I will Mom. See you later, You too Dad. Love you.”
"Make sure you behave. Watch the guys. I know how guys think ….." Draxx yelled after her but she was already gone.
Melody shot Draxx a small smirk before disappearing again into the other room.
