Mission: Old, New Ship
Location: Observation Lounge, Deck 3
Timeline: MD8 - 0100 hours
2510 words - 5 OF Standard Post Measure

ON:

Sav had enjoyed Melody taking the ship through the asteroid field and into orbit around the free fire zone asteroid the fighter mission was upon. She loved how Melody handled the controls, outstanding for seeing with intuitive sense of what was going on, with an intuitive understanding of the size and control of the Merlin. Melody was outstanding, and if it wasn't for Sav's cyberapathy, the best pilot on board. So, Sav would make sure that Melody was.

She was now in the lounge with Melody and waiting for the rest of the Fighter Pilots to show up. It was customary for the fighter pilots to gather for drinks and to denote if they approved or did not approve of the new CAG's flight into his/her new command. Sav just knew she fell short, somehow, and waited for the dress down of her pilots under her. She turned to Melody, "What libation would you like? I am buying the drinks, as agreed, and will get them." She left off that she had to watch the pour, otherwise, she would not drink her drink.

Melody slid onto a bar stool "Large Aldeberan whisky, neat please. You should try it" she added. "So why did you decide to become a flyer?"

Sav churred lightly, those memories being very happy and before 'this time of her life'. She nodded to Melody, "Okay, I will. I love a good bourbon, Anise Dulce, and Scotch." She motioned to the bartender, "Make that two Aldeberan whiskies, neat, please." Then, she stilled, her entire focus upon the two pours. She followed intently the glasses being set out. The bartender noticed this and figures she wanted to see how the light refracted through the whisky to determine aging and cask type. So, he poured in full view of her, at an angle to let the light refract through. Unknown to him, Sav was making sure he did NOT slip a mickey into the drink. However, she did wonder why it was green instead of amber/caramel color. As he brought up the two drinks and slid them towards the ladies, Sav stayed focused until she received hers. Then, and only then, did she relax with her drink, knowing it had not been monkeyed with.

Melody too her glass "Thank you and Cheers!"

Sav turned to Melody, holding her glass out, "Salute, Melody." She took a light drink, and almost choked on the passage down her throat. The drink was strong in both taste and proof. Even with her sense of smell and taste being dampened, this stuff went right past that. She swallowed, spurting out, "Wow, strong, heavy taste... definitely a sipping liquor." She took a lighter sip this time, enjoying the burning liquid as it hit her senses. She shook herself, her fur laying out and settling down into its natural layers.

She giggled gently as she answered Melody's question. "It all started when my dad put me into a maintenance pod at the starport when I was six. He had strapped me into the seat to keep me out of trouble. But, when I touched the panel..." Sav sighed out in pleasure, then remembered where she was and continued the story, albeit adding things to make sure no one knew she just melded and flew. No one would believe her anyways, and it would put too much of a target onto her. She did not want to taken as an exotic with abilities for the underground. She already had enough of that. "When I touched the panel, I discovered they were not locked. I had a voracious appetite for reading technical manuals, and I knew the controls. My dad, and his dockworkers, were shocked when the pod took off and flew intricate maneuvers around, those maneuvers based upon flying desires of a six year old." Sav shook herself, "That was when I knew I was a flyer."

Melody took a sip of her drink as she listened and thought to herself how different her life would have been with her fathers influence. Would she still have made the same choices? "Did your father encourage your newfound interest?"

Sav churr laughed, the sound rather interesting and arousing. "Yes, he most definitely did, as well as the dock workers. Yeah, they at first thought my father was showing off with loop d loops, upside downs, zig zags among ships, and hovers over fellow ship workers. Dad showed them the flight video of me in the seat, and they loved it." Sav raised her glass, "To happy times, may they be in the near future.. for all." She smiled to Melody, trying to shake the mood trying to overcome her. "How about yourself? When did you know?" Sav almost asked how she was feeling now away from the dreaded 'Mekhanii', but that would be for later, if Melody wanted to be her friend. As it usually worked, ladies always got to know her to become their wingmen for finding dates and helping with those dates through steady and/or breakup. Sav's muzzle grew hopeful for friend, yet tinged with sorrow for not.

"I stole a shuttlecraft" Melody took another sip of her drink. "It was about 6 weeks after I had been rescued. One day something inside me just snapped and the next thing I knew I was sat in shuttle on my own. Something hit me when I was sat there at the controls, the sudden freedom. I though if I went fast enough I could outrun the memories, but as I went faster I got so caught up in the speed itself, and suddenly I was happy. I remember crying for joy. I knew then that.........This is what I wanted. It took them over 2 hours to retrieve me. The Captain was mad when they finally got me back on board the Thunderchild but at the same time he was impressed at the evasive maneuvers I had used since I had had no training."

Sav's eyes beamed as Melody told about the joy of flying, of speed, and of freedom. She churred loudly now, the erotic trilling purr sounding out to those around. That churr settled down lightly as Sav said, "Yes, speed, freedom, flying with your companion, enjoying being in space and feeling the cosmos around you, away from what that past has wrought upon you." She held up her glass to Melody again, "Yes, to us flyers and the freedom of being from our pasts." She took a larger sip, hoping to feel this time the buzz of a light drunk with stuff as strong as this.

Melody took a sip of her drink and smiled, but it didn't quite reach her eyes, the memory of her mother was still on her mind.

Sav now looked over Melody, a light concerned look upon her muzzle, the set of her whiskers, ears, and tail. "As the others have not come in yet, may I be allowed to ask you, how are you doing? You said something snapped, and being in the clutches of the Mekhanii.." Sav paused, eyes cast down, her body flinching lightly in remembering her own past, and then she continued, "I realize nothing that has happened to me could ever in any way relate, but I can try, I am a good listener, and never divulge anything learned." She looked back up to Melody, her crisp speech going to swamp dialect, "Ah.. would lahke tah become ah friend, ifin yah would allow, orun at leas' start tah, ayuh."

Elias walked over to meet the new CAG and LT. Jones. Both seemed to be deep in conversation, and he hated to interrupt. But what the heck. “You two mind if I join you?”

Sav switched from her too relaxed pose with Melody to a more 'party-guarded' one, glad to have the interruption before Melody could say no and allow her a chance to think about what Sav had said. She stood up and held out her hand, "Glad to meet you, First Luey Walker, I am Lieutenant j.g. Saveena Tillatix. please, call me Sav."

Elias took her hand, "likewise Sav. You can call me Elias or Bedivere, I don't pay much to rank these day."

Sav nodded to the bartender, "What would you have? I'm buying. Do you know when the others are coming so we can grab a table? Or are you their scout on the new CAG to see how she feels out?"

Elias laughed. "I'll have a Irish coffee, large. More Irish than coffee if you get my meaning." He told the bartender. "I don't know who else is going to show up, but a table would be more comfortable." He said leading them over to a back booth. "that was some very good flying you and your team did today. I have to say I'm generally impressed."

Sav churred lightly, "You and me both. I just arrived and they put me in charge. Sooo, on the training mission, I decided to have the fighters do a criss-cross maneuver with the formation supporting two by two targets and a shortened fly-by and good scatter to keep 'enemy' gunners off target. I did pretty good, and they did very well." Sav snorted out in humor, "And then, immediately having to go out to guard the find, and the resulting firefight with the Scorpions, that was a mission." She smiled, "We didn't lose a man, and got three bogeys. All in all, great work." She lifted her green whiskey, "A toast to the pilots."

Elias chuckled, "To the pilots"

She smiled to Melody and Elias, and decided to only keep the training mission involved. Everybody knew what happened with the Romulan and Vulcan meetings. "So, Elias, how long were you on the rock to get the targeting area set up like that? It was a good representative layout of a Dominion base."

Elias took a sip of his spiked coffee. "Not long. I had two different teams working on it. I figured most pilots in the fleet would recognize Dominion base. Lord knows I've seen too many of them, inside and out." He said growing reflective for a moment. "So, how do you like the Merlin so far?"

Sav churred out gently, her tail flicking twice, "I am LOVIN' it, Elias, just loving it." She motioned to Melody, "She let me pilot her to the border of the Hayes field. She is a great ship." She slyly glanced at Melody, "And Melody is a pilot extraordinaire."

Elias casually watch Sav flick her tail. It was a curious thing to him. "Yes she is, and not bad at understanding old signal code."

Sav took a sip of her drink, "Say, we know this is my first day today, how long have you two been on board?"

"Not much longer than you. I was transferred on just after the ship was underway." Elias replied. Then signaling the bartender. "Forget the coffee laddie, and just bring the whiskey."

Melody blushed slightly and smiled added "It's a good thing you took that pulse emitter with you. I'll have another too."

Turning back to Saveena "Have you settled into your quarters ok?"

Sav smiled, "One second." She turned to the bartender, "Bring a bottle of 15 year Aged Cask Bourbon please, I'm buying." She turned back to the two, then looked at Melody and shook her head. "Nope, have not been to them yet. I only recently was sent a note that they are on the ninth deck. I hope my belonging made it there okay."

Sav turned and said, "Thank you" to the bartender as he put down the Irish whiskey, the Aldeberan whisky, and the bottle of bourbon. As he went off, Sav opened the bottle, carefully poured it, studying the liquid, then put the top back on and took a sip. She pushed the bottle to the middle, "For us, and anybody else who wants to join in before we leave." She held up her glass, "To new acquaintances and friendships in the making."

Melody raised her glass "Well said, Here here!"

Sav looked at Melody, "Say, you wouldn't want to come with me to check out my quarters, would you, and maybe explain anything new that I don't recognize?" She winked to Elias, "I would invite you, but showing my delicate feminine unmentionables to a guy I'm not dating would seem a touch awkward, eh?"

"No problem Saveena. I'm still getting use to the size of my quarters. I'm just glad I haven't lost Nibbles yet."

Elias chuckled and winked back. "No worries lass. I'd plans on stay here to have a few more drinks and see what mischief I can get into."

Sav saluted Elias with her glass, a smile upon her face, as she said, "I am sure there are plenty of ladies here who would love a dance with a handsome guy such as yourself, and the 'trouble' that can bring."

Elias consider what she said. A few years ago he would have been game but now, who knows. " Too true. But we'll see. Right now I'm just content to enjoy the company of you two ladies."

Sav blushed lightly, but just knew that was meant more for Melody than her, definitely. And, thinking about Melody, Sav looked over at her, asking, "Nibbles?"

"She's my pet hedgehog, one thing my counselor actually said that I listened to and was a good thing. I've had her for about 3 years. I almost lost her in my previous quarters when I let her out for a run once. It took me over an hour to rack her down. She had fallen asleep in one of my boots. I talk to her a lot and she makes me happy". Melody tossed the rest of her drink back in a single draft "Ready when you are."

Sav churr-laughed gently, "Alrighty." She took another sip of her glass, then put it on the table. She just could not slam liquor, not with everything that could be hidden within it. Picking up the bottle of Bourbon, she came over to Elias and pressed it into his hands, "For next time we get together, would be a neat treat." As she was close, and using the motion of putting the bottle into his hands, she whispered to him, "Melody is beautiful, isn't she? I think she's single too..." Her wingman duties performed, she moved back from Elias, "Enjoy yourself. And thank you for the compliments."

"Cheers ladies, and enjoy the rest of your evening" He said taking a drink.

She turned to walk out of the lounge with Melody. "Let' see, the disbursing officer says my quarters are on Deck 9 with the pilots. Weird, but, oh well. My bags are supposed to be there already."

Melody gestured with her hand "Lead the way."
