An Evaluation for Sansa

Mission: The Seal of approval
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD 2 1000

ON:

Melody entered sickbay with Sansa and Draxx. She approached the CMO's office. "Good morning, Doctor. Sansa informs me you'd like to speak with us?"

"Morning Doc," Draxx nodded.

"Ah yes, Captain, Lieutenant... Please" he motioned for the pair to make their way to his office and for them to take a seat as he closed the door behind him and tapped a control on the door panel which changed the clear glass windows over looking sickbay to be frosted, blocking view from outside.

"Would either of you care for something to drink?"

"Yes please. Raktajino. Strong," Draxx took the offer. "Two?" he looked at his wife for confirmation.

Melody nodded, and Sansa quickly interjected, "Make that three please."

Deon returned promptly, placing three mugs on the small coffee table, one for each of his guests while he took a seat to the side, his own mug in hand.

"So what's all this about?" Draxx asked.

"At the behest of Captain Jones we conducted a preliminary examination on Sansa given her unique connection with the entity... I forget their name now. But it is having a noticeable effect on her neurological pathways. At this stage it appears not to be in anyway dangerous to Miss Sansa but it has raised a few flags".

Deon picked his way through what he was trying to say with delicacy so as not to worry the patient or the parents.

Draxx frowned. He didn't like hearing what he was hearing. "What effect is it having?" he asked.

"At this stage, it does not appear to be life threatening but it is having a marked impact on her neurological makeup. I won't bore you with the scan data but in summary it looks almost as if, at times, an entirely new being is overlaying Sansa's own brainwaves in a way as to make it look as if nothing is wrong. Doctor Zirvell and I have looked over this in more detail and it has all the hallmarks of other entity's that have inhabited other Starfleet officers, most notably the USS Enterprise encountered what they assumed was nothing more than a Nebula on stardate 41249.3... In fact it was far more than that and several crewmembers including Captain Picard and Doctor Crusher were inhabited, for lack of a better term".

Deon paused as he realised the sheer amount of information he was imparting and it not being completely comprehensible and potentially worrisome for the three in his office.

"Again, I want to add that at present we have no indications that this is harmful... What I am suggesting is we should be cautious. We have little to no data pertaining to long term effects of this kind of symbiosis. Even the Trill do not correlate to this particular situation as that is a physical symbiosis. I would like to request that Ms Sansa wear the cortical scanner for the foreseeable so we can monitor this closely and develop some kind of fall back plan should it start to put her in danger, a way of extracting or if it is deemed necessary to eradicate the connection between them".

Draxx sipped his coffee his brain completely scrambled. "I haven't noticed any difference in her and I think I would know my own daughter."

"Indeed... One of these episodes, for lack of a better term, took place during the assessment Doctor Zirvell and I completed on her earlier today... For all intents and purposes, she was someone entirely different but in Sansa's physical form. Who knows how often this has happened before now".

Deon wasn't sure he was calming the situation and hoped the Captain would offer her opinion so he at least had a full read of the room.

"Sweetheart," Draxx looked at his daughter. "Is something going on?"

Sansa took a deep breath. "I'm still me Mom; I'm just... more than I was." She paused as she tried to find the correct words. "When Fay was sharing my body I was learning from her, even when we were not speaking. It's funny to have someone else inside your head."

Melody gave her a smile. "Believe me Sweetie, I know all too well."

Sansa acknowledged her before continuing, "When she left, she gave me a gift. Something special. I never picked up any malice or ill will from her. As for Esme, I couldn't let her die, to lose all that she knew. All that she was is part of me now. I knew the risks and I was no coercedThere's no separating it, I'm afraid. I hope I'm a better person for it. "The ability to communicate with the whales is, while unexpected, not a bad thing." She approached Melody and Draxx and hugged them both "I'm still your daughter, always."

Melody gave her a squeeze back. "I know, Sweetie, I know."

Sansa looked at Deon. "I appreciate your concern, Doctor, but I'm still me, and I'm quite willing to wear a cortical scanner if it will help put you at ease. I must admit, I'd be fascinated to see how I'm communicating with these whales myself."

"Thank you," Deon said simply. He had feared his words might have betrayed his feelings and inflamed a situation that had never needed escalating. Instead, Sansa had responded with the understanding he had hoped for, and he found himself quietly grateful for her compassion.

"In that case, we have no further business to discuss. I only ask that, if you experience another episode, you report to Sickbay so we can review the data," he said, fixing the young woman with a pointed look.

Sansa nodded. "Of course Doctor, that seems reasonable." As the nurse fixed the cortical scanner just behind her left ear. "Will there be anything else?"

"Nothing more from me. Captain?" Deon relinquished the room, recognizing that the family before him would likely want the opportunity to withdraw and discuss the situation in private.

Melody shook her head. "Thank you for your time Doctor. I appreciate the attention you're paying to my daughter." She stood "Come on you two, I think I need a drink."

"I'm more confused than ever," Draxx leaned over and muttered to his wife.
