ON:

Caroline was shocked as she caught up with some notes at the meeting with Cale to see Melody was suddenly under house arrest. She made a quick call in to her friends on route back to sickbay. The feed to her tri-corder showed that the aliens were still under.

She pressed the door chime and waited.

Melody has just got a cup of coffee from the replicator when the door chime sounded. She called out "Come!" When the door opened and she saw who it was, Melody cheered up remarkably. "Caroline! Come in please. I'm so glad to see a friendly face. Can I get you anything?"

"I haven't got too long but ... what's happened Melody, why are you confined to quarters?" she asked.

"it's a long story, and partly something I wanted to talk to you about." Melody sat down on the sofa and took a deep breath. "It all starts with Save'ena. I'm really worried about her."

"Okay," Caroline said softly. "What are you worried about? What's going on?"

Melody sighed "Well to cut a long story short something happened with Wolf which brought out a bizarre conditioned response in Save and some kind of different personality and.........." Melody took a deep breath " I slapped her. Twice. I know, I know I'm in trouble but I had to so something. I've had suspicions that Save'ena has been hiding something. There are times she talks about the past and her voice looses all its tone like she's reciting something from a book rather then recalling actual events. Has she given you any cause to doubt what she has told you, I know you can't tell me any details because of doctor patient confidentially."

Melody brushed the hair from her face and looked Caroline in the eye "Can you help her. Please Caroline! I don't know what else I can do for her."

"You slapped her?" Caroline said quietly. "Melody calm down. I'm a doctor. I will always through the best of my ability help anyone who requires medical help. I haven't had a chance to catch up with Wolf yet, so I don't know anything about different personalities and your right I can't break confidentiality to speak on things. But," she said softly giving her the only thing she could, "Rest assured I am delving into her medical records with a fine tooth comb. I have too," she added covering herself. "Savaneena is the only member of her species I have ever seen. I have a huge amount to learn to be confident as her physician. And if something is not by the book in those records, I will find it.

Melody stood, walked over to Caroline and wrapped her arms around her in a big hug. "Oh thank you Caroline. I knew you'd be able to help. I just reacted without thinking, but I had to do something. Anything. I..... I........." her voice trailed off

"I'm sure she will understand," Caroline said gently returning the hug. "You seem very fond of her," she commented. Neither had been on-board the ship very long.

"We're two of a kind and when she holds me" Melody got a dreamy look on her face as she spoke "it's like nothing bad can happen. And she's so kind and beautiful and..........."

Caroline was a little concerned at Melody's sudden level of attachment to the other officer and surprised. She had no idea Melody liked the ladies. She had thought she had been working on a crush on the XO."Sounds like your crushing there Melody. Look I really do have to get back. 4 Romulo Vulcans," she said sheepishly. "But we will have to catch up properly soon. And you can give me all the gossip ehh."

Melody Smiled "That sounds great Caroline, it's been a while. What the story with these stasis pods, do you really think you can revive the occupants and is it a good idea? Romulans from that time period have probably never seen a human before and according to Mr Carson they don't sound like the friendliest bunch of people."

"I already have revived them as the pods were failing. After we pulled them out of their craft, Engineering could not find a compatible energy source fast enough. It was either that or they died. They might not be friendly but I have a duty of care," Caroline stated simply. "And at present we have sedated them. Well the best we can with thousands of years old physiology. The Captains put extra security and marines in sickbay. It will play out however it plays out," she finished.

It might not have been the best idea, Caroline reflected but she was bound by her oath as a doctor.

"Well at least they are sedated" Melody mused "I'm due on the bridge shortly, if you need anything call me. Also can you keep the bridge updated on any development and lets just hope I'm being a bit paranoid" She smiled as she led Caroline towards the door.

"Will do, don't worry. And try to cheer up ehh. This will be over in a flash," Caroline flashed a gentle smile. "Honestly."

Melody smiled and drew her friend into a hug. "I'll try Caroline" she whispered "I'll try......"
