==== Deck 4: Corridors ====

The turbolift opened and out stepped the CAG and a security Crewman. They headed towards the Officers Mess.

Sav smiled to Brenda, "Have you had other 'OJT' duties, or is this your first one?"

"Mr. Scarlet ensured we did them on the Kingston. So... kinda? I mean, this is my first one since the academy." Brenda replied with a smile.

Sav remarked, "I have had several. Being a Bridge Command Specialist means your a Helmsman first, then my training is in Navigation, Communications, Weapons, and Engineering with Aux Computers and controls, hence that would be my usual DC station." She paused a moment, "But, as CAG, I haven't a clue yet. I am going to have to ask. Anyways, in private college schooling, I have Starship Strategy and Tactics as well."

"A jack of all trades as it were?" Brenda chuckled. "I want to be able to know enough that when an officer points to me and says 'Hey you! Go to that console and do that thing!', then I can actually do the job and not look like a complete putz."

Sav held up her hand, "Wait a second.. we have arrived."

==== Deck 4: Senior Officers Mess ====

The doors to the Senior Officers Mess opened. To tell the truth, this was the first time Sav had been here to eat. She was surprised when a Crewman came over, "Greetings Ma'am, is she with you?" Sav nodded, "Yes, OJT duty." The Crewman smiled, "Right this way." The two were led over to be seated, with Sav lightly blushing. She was definitely NOT used to this.

The Crewman sat them down and took their drink orders. He handed over the placard with the three meal selections on it, then left to get them their drinks. Sav swallowed, then turned to Brenda, "Umm, I had no idea. This is my first time in Senior Officer Mess. It's a wee tad different than I'm used to, that's for sure." She glanced at the menu, "So, um, choose what you think you will like?"

Brenda sat down and placed her PADD on the tablecloth. They had a tablecloth on the tables! She was so amazed by the little things, the table cloth, the napkins, the... well... everything. It looked like a bloody four star restaurant. She looked up at Sav and then back down at the menu. "Wow..."

The Crewman came back, placing their drinks in front of them. He brought out a padd, then asked, "What will you have?"

Sav chose the Halibut over the wild rice/veggy medley with the mushroom risotto.

"Steak, rare. With the twice baked potato and the garden salad."

As the Crewman went off to get their lunch, Sav shook her head. "So this is how Senior officers mess is." She looked at Aumento, "I owe you an apology, I was expecting the buffet style of regular officers mess, not this."

Brenda smiled and leaned forward. "I want to see if it's the same replicated stuff we usually get and they've just packaged it in a fancy box."

Sav's face took on an interested look, and then broke into a big grin. "That is an outstanding point, Girrl." She tapped a finger to the side of her muzzle, "I know visiting Dips get the great food, so does that also apply to Senior Officers? Well, we will soon find out, or see if only the Captain gets the 'good stuff'."

"So, not to pry sir, but where are you from?" Brenda asked with a smile. "And please, if I ask or say anything inappropriate, it's because I don't have a sweet clue and I'm just being curious." She paused and fumbled for a moment. "This is the first time I've actually been around... non-humans... in my life. Even my class at the academy was all human... " She shook her head. "And typical jock males for the most part..."

Sav took on an interested look as Brenda asked her question and why, but on the last statement, Sav made an 'ewwwww' face. She stated, "Yuck, you can keep the Jock males... they always get away with their pranks with blaming others..." Sav shook herself, and then said, "And, I would love to answer your question. I am from Apollonia, a backwater colony world in the Federation. I was born there and lived there all my life until I left for the Academy." She winked, "And, yes, I know, you mean my Race is from." She churred, "My family immigrated from the L'Tandrey Protectorate. The Protectorate is located out along the far reaches of the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way, half in the Delta Quadrant, half in the Beta Quadrant. I am a Mephetian. We are a tree dwelling race, very at home in heights and with great balance. So, my turn for a question. Were you born on Terra? Or another planet in the Federation?"

"Terran born and raised." Brenda said with a shrug. "Small town off the beaten path, so not many tourists or visitors from away. But I really wanted to travel and well... nothing beats a starship." She took a quick sip of her drink. "So is everyone from Apollonia or the L'Tandrey Protectoratea Mephetian?"

Sav snickered, "Well, Apollonia, a Federation wanna be colony world, is mainly Terran and a spattering of other Fed races. Mephetians are just my family, even though their are some Felinoid races nearby as well. On the L'Tandrey protectorate," Sav looked thoughtful, then continued, "Well, the main race are the L'Tandrey. They are Vulpinoid, umm, imagine a Terran fox as a humanoid. They are very beautiful in dancing as they are very dexterous and light on their feet. They are also a tree climbing race, similar type climbing claws as Mephetians. Then there are other races, Sarteefs, Felinoid Taurs, Rhuuians, Felinoid, Soliquoys, umm, a furred komodo dragon humanoid, and other diversified races. And, something neat for you to know, Sumerians. And, yes, they are 100% Terran. Way back in Terran history, they managed to put together a crude but effective crystalline Rift Gate and came through to a planet in the L'Tandrey Protectorate. Snickers, the few Federation visitors always seem shocked to find Terrans living and working among the L'Tandrey races. My turn, any non-Terran race you find interesting, and maybe even take out on a date?"

Brenda held back a shocked cough. "Tough question, and right to the point." She smiled nervously. "It's... complicated. Everything is so new and all these new people... I'm just finding my place in it all, you know? Like... I want to get to know the person, not the race... I want to make sure if I'm on a date I'm interested in the person I'm on the date with and not just using them for a weird social experiment. And I think I kind of have that fear on my end as well. Are they interested in Brenda Aumento... or did they just hear earth girls are easy?" She sighed. "Either way, not yet. Haven't really found anyone who tickles my fancy yet... or at least no one that I'd really go on a date with."

Sav churred gently, "Yeah, overwhelmed, I can definitely empathize with that." She took a sip of her iced tea, unsweetened, then continued, saying in a low voice with a hint of emotion behind it. "And trust me, I can understand about weird social experiments. Look at me, I resemble a Terran Skunk, and high school, college, and the Academy peer groups are very, very cruel. The really few dates I had was for the boys reputations and trying to see how 'easy' I was. Heck, my greeting for a while was almost, *Sav made quotes in the air* 'No, I don't smell like a skunk, have skunk musk ejecting glands on my butt, resemble that animal in my intimate areas, and no, I WON'T strip so you can check it out for yourself'." She hrmphed out, "Stupid boys.. and girls."

Brenda laughed. "You should try and earth girl... I hear they're easy." She grinned broadly.

The crewman came over with the rare steak for Brenda and the Halibut for Sav. He put the dishes in front of the two, then asked, "Do you need a refill on drinks? Anything else?"

"I'm good crewman, thanks." Brenda smiled politely.

Sav churred, "Dessert menu when you get a chance, please." The crewman nodded, then went off about his tasks.

Sav took in a breath, then released it, looking at Brenda. "And, I think having Terran as a second language hurt me earlier. What I meant was if you had found a non-Terran race attractive? After all, the physical attraction has to happen first before you start dating to find out if marriageable material or not. But, as you already said, you haven't found anybody yet."

Sav dug into her Halibut, mushroom risotto, and vegetable medley. She churred out, "This is good. I don't know if its replicated or not, but it is good. Can you tell?"

Brenda nodded as she dug into her dish. "Never been so much about the race... always the person." She chewed slowly and swallowed deliberately. "I can't really tell... usually with replicated food it tastes kind of bland... this is actually a bit seasoned. But I do have things that I like..." She took another bite. "There is something about a person's eyes that I like and how they move..." She waved a hand in front of her. "Like... are they graceful... or am I going to get smacked in the back of the head with a knee?"

Sav snickered as she replied, "Yeah, getting hit with flailing limbs is never a fun time. Back during college when I was 16, I had been hit multiple times at Electronica Concerts by such flailing limbs. On the eyes, yeah, they are windows, for sure." She now took another bite of her food and stated, "I totally agree with you. If this is replicated, it must have better algorithms as this Halibut is flaky and seasoned instead of the stiff cardboard usually that comes out. So, score one for being a Senior Officer."

Brenda smiled and then frowned for a moment. "It is a little... disheartening that they can make the food taste better... but not for all the ship." She grinned again. "I guess it is something to strive for as a perk of being an officer." She looked up then and shuttered. "Or Chief... I would assume a Chief gets to eat good as well." She thought of Mr. Scarlet. "That is if they'd bother I guess."

Sav nodded to Brenda, "Yeah, Chiefs would too, they have their own mess, and a perk to strive for, I guess. I wouldn't want to make it just because of the food, but I would guess that many actually do."

The Mess Crewman, seeing as the Officer and her OJT partner were almost done, came over with the Dessert Menu. Sav took it from him, smiling and saying thank you. She glanced over it, then said, "The Pecan Pie please." Handing the one sheet menu to Brenda, she asked, "Anything catch your eye?"

"Just a chocolate milkshake please." Brenda said with a smile. "I want to see if they can get chocolate right."

As the crewman walked away, Sav churred out, "Yeah, we'll see if they can or not. I know it is hard to get a good Pecan Pie, so many places making it get it wrong." She grinned, "I'm a little picky. My Dad makes the best Pecan Pie ever, not too sweet, thickened center, bits of pecan in it, besides the pecans on the top. The secret is molasses and honey instead of corn syrup and sugar along with some vanilla spiced bourbon." Sav sighed, "I should get the ingredients next time we stop in a port and make a couple of them."

"I make a killer rum cake. I wonder how it would do with Romulan Ale..." Brenda said with a grin.

The crewman sat the desserts down in front of Brenda and Sav. He then picked up the dirty dishes and took them to the kitchen area. Sav watched him go, then said to Brenda, "I almost prefer getting the food myself, and hauling off the dishes." She took a bite of her pecan pie, shook her head, then scraped off the Pecans to eat by themselves. "Way, way too sweet. So, pecans and leave the filling behind. How's your shake?"

Brenda took a long sip and shrugged. "Like a watered down hot chocolate that was left to cool for the night."

Sav finished her pecans, then finished off her ice tea while waiting for Brenda to finish her Milkshake. When done, Sav said, "Let's blow this Popsicle Stand. Tomorrow you can take me to crews mess to eat so we can critique the food there. Next up, TIC."
