As they entered the ready room Melodys fists were tightly clenched, her entire body was a coiled spring. Shouting at the Captain on the bridge would be frowned upon slightly. As soon as the doors closed however.........
"IT WAS ALL A TEST!!!!!!! WITH ALL DUE RESPECT SIR IM NOT A FIRST YEAR CADET AND A KOBAYASI MARU STRIGHT OUT OF SPACE DOCK!!!!!!!! I KNOW WE HAVE TO BE PREPARED BUT I STILL DONT THINK IT WAS A FARE TEST OF MY COMMAND ABILATIES..........Sir"
She paced the room as she vented and having let off steam, she once again stood infront of the captain and hoped she hadn't gone too far.
Barstow just stood in front of his desk and watched and listened as Melody spoke. He waited for a moment before taking a breath, "Lieutenant, do you think space would care if it was a fair test of your command abilities? Or an enemy attacking us?" he asked calmly, "you weren't the only one being tested. This was a stress test for the entire crew, do you know why they have you run the Kobayashi Maru simulation?"
Melody took a few deep breaths.
"I apologize for my outburst sir, the exercise caught me off guard and spoke before I thought. I realize that a no win scenario could be a possibility sir."
John sat on the edge of his desk and waived his hand dismissively, "no apology needed," he said and rested his hands on the edge of his desk, "it isn't just about coping with a no win. To be honest I have been in no win situations, there's always a way. It may be the most ungraceful and ugliest solution, but, there are solutions. I'm just glad Ikiri stopped short of phasering the computer core connections," he added with a chuckle, "with what you had you did well, Lieutenant. You did get comms back, I just could not answer as part of the scenario. And, incidentally, it didn't start out no win, we had to adjust for you and Ikiri bypassing our stuff," he added with a grin.
"I was getting a bit suspicious when all the backups failed, I though Ikiri would have more than one trick up his sleeve" Melody agreed. "As well as speed, I don't like to lose" she quipped.
Thinking for a moment, she continued "I have to deliver my conn report to Lieutenant Ikiri in engineering as well as discuss with him an experimental propulsion system that I've managed to get my hands on the schematics. Shall I tell him you want to see him for a debriefing?"
John shook his head, "I'll see him in the briefing room. I want to go over the drill with everyone," he replied, "I called you in here more for an after care type thing, we put you in the hot seat and I wanted to make sure you were alright and let you know you did well," he added with a smile.
Melody mused for a moment "Thank you Sir, I hope I performed to your expectations. I think myself and the bridge crew handled the emergency very well and if a real emergency should occur, it will be handled with the same dedication and professionalism. Apparently we will need a new pair of fuzzy dice for the bridge" she added with a cheeky grin.
Apollo laughed, "I think that's a special requisition, I'll let you order it," he replied then stood up, "and have engineering come fix the console you hotwired," he added with a wink.
"Aye Sir" She responded smiling and with that Melody headed back onto the bridge.
