"Easy Lieutenant," Caroline's voice rang out as he started to regain consciousness. She smiled down at him, "Everything went fine. How do you feel now?"
Cale resisted a little bit with what strength he had. "I feel better...not 100% but better, Doctor.
"While you were out I ran a full body scan. The results are just coming in now. You can sit up if you like," she told him. "Would you like a drink?"
"That sounds good to me. Scotch straight up please," he said with a weak laugh and an even weaker smile.
"Ah now I know you're feeling better. Unfortunately I only have nonalcoholic offerings," Caroline told him.
"Yes just a little joke," Cale said with a wan smile this time. He was feeling better all the time.
She fetched him some water and handed it to him. Then one of the screens beeped on the bio bed she had him on. Caroline furrowed her brow, now he had another strange development. "Lieutenant your brain chemistry is throwing something strange up. I need to do some further tests on your neurotransmitter levels in your brain. Are you sure you feel fine?"
"Yes Doc. Just a little bit dizzy probably because of the anesthesia," Cale said insistently. He was growing impatient now. But just then he felt worried as well. Or was he? All he knew how was that he was feeling scared for himself.
"No something is different. Changing," Caroline said. "I need more data from your neurotransmitters."
She went to a locker and pulled out a small circular device. "I want you to wear this for me for a couple of days so I get some proper readings. The body scan was just a snapshot in time. This will tell me what's going on properly. You will feel a sharp pain as I place it into your temple."
"Thank you, Doctor Miller. May I leave now?"
"No I can release you, just come back to see me in 48 hours. And tell me if you experience anything unusual. Okay?"
"Yes Ma'am. Doctor's orders trump anything. Am I fit for duty?"
"For now. I'll keep an eye on the data going in," Caroline said. "Don't look so worried Lieutenant. It could be anything and nothing."
"That's what's bothering me The 'anything and nothing'" Cale answered. He felt different and yet the same all at the same time. So he made his way out of Sickbay unbeknownst to him that there was a drill going on. Or that he was meet a very interesting person outside these walls.
