Timeline: MD7 Late Evening

ON:

Melody rushed down he corridor, barefoot and still in her nightdress. She drew one or two curious looks but she was so distracted she did nt notice or care.

She arrived outside the Doctor's cabin. She new it was late but this could not wait.

She pressed the door chime, waited only a moment then knocked on the door, quite agitated. "Caroline? Caroline are you awake? I need you're help!"

Caroline threw on a robe. "Lights," she said softly. She groaned as her eyes stung for a moment as she made her way into her lounge. "Computer unlock and open door."

Melody rushed through the open door. "I'm sorry to disturb you at this late hour, but this couldn't wait" She spoke quickly and with a quite intensity.

"Melody, what's wrong?"

I just had the most vivid dream, at least I think it was I dream. I'm not sure. It was so real. The sights, the sounds, the smells and.............. I saw my mother."

Caroline began to wonder if there was something going round. First the Captain needing her in the wee hours for a dream and now Melody. "Okay, come in. Computer hot chocolate." She looked at Melody. "Would you like one?"

Melody nodded, and sat down rubbing her arms which were trembling slightly.

"So in this dream, did your mother say anything to you?"

"She did She called me beautiful. I was too shocked to say anything before I woke up. Thanks to the time in the Borg maturation chamber, I remember what my mother looked like, even though I was just a baby when we were captured. When I saw her just now, she looked older. If it was just a memory in a dream, why would she look older?"

Caroline shook her head unsure. She grabbed a tricorder she had sitting on her coffee table. "You're stressed out, have high levels of adrenaline in your system and elevated heartrate. All perfectly normal after a shock. But the odd thing is, Melody your not showing any signs that you have had any REM sleep in the last 18 hours."

That last statement sent a chill straight down Melody's spine "So if I wasn't dreaming........ What happened?"

"I don't know," Caroline admitted. "I'm not as up on Borg physiology as I should be but between you and Ikiri I will become competent. I want you to wear a neurocortical monitor for a few nights, see if we can get some readings and make some sense of it. Maybe you were in a medative state, you don't have to be at REM level to visualise vivid things."

Melody relaxed visibly "Thank you Caroline, I feel so silly waking you but this really did shock me. It's just I miss my parents so much....."

"I know," Caroline said softly. She didn't know the right words to comfort her friend. Bodies were easy but emotions and minds , this ship certainly needed a counsellor. "My doors open anytime you know that. We will get to the bottom of it. Because I'll keep trying until we can understand it. I promise," she told her friend.

Melody stood and threw her arms around Caroline and embraced her in pure reflex. She then realised , and released her friend. "Sorry" she stammered "I'll let you get back to sleep. Thank you" and with that Melody left Caroline's quarters.
