The beach seamed to go on forever. The sun hung low in the sky and Melody could smell the salt in the air as a gentle breeze kept the line of palm trees behind her swaying. She knew this was a dream, but it was one of the most realistic she had ever had.
She looked down to see she was wearing a simple white dress and was barefoot. She could feel the sand between her toes as she walked along. Her long red hair flowed in the breeze.
Melody stopped for a moment and watched as the sun sunk slowly over the horizon, the sky turning inky black. Turning back she found the beach now lined with flaming torches every 100 meters or so which also illuminated a path which snaked off into the tree line. Curious, she decided to follow the path.
As she followed the winding path it led to a clearing with several huts and tables arranged around a large camp fire. It was here Melody became of other people. Several were waling and talking together. A large group were sat near the camp fire listening to someone playing an acoustic guitar.
Melody continued walking through the clearing. These people seemed familiar to her, but she could not remember from where.
Then she saw something that made her freeze in her tracks. Her mouth half open in shock.
Twenty yards away, sat on a bench reading a book, sat a woman, also in a white dress. A pair of reading glasses perched near the end of her nose. As if sensing she was being watched she looked up. On seeing Melody she smiled, set her book down, stood and walked over to her. Her blond hair bobbed as she walked.
“Hello sweetie. My, you look so beautiful” she brought her hand up and brushed Melody’s hair from her face.
Melody tried to speak. Her mouth moved but no sound came out.
The scene was suddenly broken by a thundering sound which cut through the air as Melody covered her ears………..
Melody’s alarm was beeping as she shot upright in bed trembling. Her eyes were wide, her heart racing and she had only one thing on her mind, only one word on her lips.
“…………Mom?” she said softly
