Mission:
Disaster!
Location: Somewhere on ship
Timeline: 0800
1989 words - 4 OF Standard Post Measure
Dinslow relaxed slightly when Anya, Zirval and Tarr disappeared from view. He moved along the hull of the ship seeking another way in, after about a half an hour he messaged Anya, "Doctor, have you arrived at your destination. its been quiet out here, but beautiful. Can you hear me?" there was a slight amount of static, then some muttered cursing, =^="Blast, I hit some dead air space. I've not found another entrance into the ship but I am getting close. Don't worry I still have enough air." some more silence, then he commented. "I hope you can hear me." =^=
"I hear you Dinslow... We've dropped our friend off at a medical muster point and we are making our way to the bridge... No one has heard from them... Tell me about the view!" the sound of Anya's voice was heavy, laboured.
=^=Are you alone or do you have someone with you?"=^= Dinslow asked, =^=If you have someone with you, I can widen the broadcast, and I can talk with those with you.=^= a bit of static once more then his voice can be heard better. =^= Hello you are now talking to DJ Dinslow and the song 'Fly me to the moon'. =^= as he croons out a few bars of said song. His voice sounding rather nice like the old time crooners of like Sinatra. The smooth melodic sound.
Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like on
A-Jupiter and Mars
He chuckled, =^= Sorry the stars are beautiful much like diamonds or even in some cases dew drops upon the branch of a tree when the sun shines just right.=^=
"What is he doing?" Zirvell asked concern in his voice, "and uhm..why are we going to the bridge?" He looked back at their rescuee, who was in very bad condition.
"In case anyone needs medical attention and so that there's some senior officer representation if the admiral requires us," Caroline stated. "And he's needing comfort. Hes stuck outside in a horrible suit with no current way in.
She pressed her own badge, =^=Fill my heart with song and let me sing for ever more. You are all i worship and adore .... come on Anya. You know the words .... In other words ......"
"I have no idea of the words..." the Benzite said, feeling her own emotions welling once more.
Zirvell nodded slowly towards the counselor. "Is there no way to transport him, now that we're safely back inside? Or get more oxygen to him?"
Anya shook her head in the direction of Zirvell knowing already that the transporters where likely offline and the fact they found any kind of entry back into the ship was a miracle in and of itself. Lightning striking a second time would be unlikely.
"Tell us about yourself Dinslow!" she asked, wanting to know him better.
Dinslow heard the conversation, the transporters were offline still, he tried to contact someone but to no avail. He was lucky to have contact with three that he had. =^=Oh you can call me a bad boy with a heart of gold."=^= He said with light laugh. =^=At least that is what I try to convey. I'm just a simple country boy from Arizona born near the Grand Canyon in Flagstaff. Its such a beautiful place to see, the scent of natural pine at the end of a rainstorm, and the freshly moistened earth. Mom and Dad run a ranch out there, with beef and a dairy farm. An old fashioned farmhouse, the kitchen smelling of fresh baked bread and sometimes some delicious pies. I think I need to quit talking about that right now, I'm making myself hungry. I would love for a good steak sandwich with a slice of cheddar cheese with tomatoes, lettuce and red onion."=^= he went silent for a moment as he continued his way along the hull, seeking a way to get in.
=^=Tell me something about yourselves. I'd like to hear about you oh and Caroline, you have a beautiful voice. I would love to sing a duet with you sometime. Maybe even take you out for a drink.=^= he paused to take a slight intake of breath. =^=Dang I just saw a shooting star, it was magnificent. I did make a wish but won't tell you what it is though. I want it to come true.=^= he then said, =^=Um Anya, or even Zirvell or Caroline, I don't care anyone can start.=^=
Anya shared a quick look with Caroline before starting. "Not much to say... My family pod is small by Benzite standards, I only have twelve brothers and sisters... I'm not particularly close with them. I wanted to be a Marine Biologist, exploring all the underground pools on Benzar but as I got older I found I wanted to explore further afield and it slowly led me here... I still struggle to grasp certain aspects of Human culture like your sayings!"
"Human sayings are difficult to grasp," the Cardassian agreed. "I am not sure where I was born as we moved a lot when I was very little. From age six to fifteen I only had my father, though he was never a decent parent to me, made worse after both my much older sisters and my mother were killed in the war. They were all soldiers and my father wanted me to be one too. I never wanted to be a soldier so I was left to my own devices to the point of literally being abandoned. When I was fifteen I was rescued and taken in by a starfleet captain, who adopted me." As soon as Zirvell mentioned the captain, his voice changed to reflect admiration and warmth. "He encouraged me to pursue a future that I wanted, and I've always wanted to help people... so here I am." He didn't mention losing ten years due to being put in stasis on his very first assignment.
=^= "That sounds outstanding, Zirvell=^= Dinslow replied. =^=Sounds like you've found someone who is great to you. =^= he paused then remarked, =^= Anya, I am glad your path led you here at this moment of time. It gives me comfort that we got to meet. You are a brave and smart individual with a lot of heart and kindness. Also you do know you can create your own family, that can be closer than your own family.=^=
Zirvell nodded in agreement to that. "He's right doctor... There's your birth family...and there's the family you make for yourself. Here, on this ship, aren't we all one big family somehow?"
=^=That is the important thing, making connections, forming a 'family' hopefully. A Unit that would be wiling to go into hell and back again for someone. Something I've been seeing over the past few months I've been on this ship. And I really like that feeling.=^= he took in a breath. =^=Any hopes and dreams any of you have? Any fears? Though I probably shouldn't ask that, I'm not a counselor.=^= giving a rueful laugh.
"That's alright sir," Zirvell answered, "we're happy to entertain you with our stories, if that helps keeping you with us. I've always dreamed of helping people, so that continues to be my goal. My biggest fear is losing my family, and coming across my birth father who I honestly never want to see again."
=^=Well you have a family definitely, which is good. And it does help with hearing your stories. Say, Zivell, do you have someone you like a lot?" =^= Dinslow asked
"Used to sir, when I was fifteen," Zirvell chuckled, "but considering I only was brought back from stasis a few days ago....no there's no one at present. Do you sir?"
“I should have been there,” Caroline said speaking finally. “I’m pregnant. I sent Roger because I was sick. I can help you trace family. If you would like that.”
Zirvell shook his head. "My adopted father is out there, on the Britannic ma'am. My adopted siblings probably on Earth or on assignments themselves. My birthfather... I want nothing to do with him. But that's not a conversation to be had here ma'am...maybe...later."
“As you wish,” Caroline answered.
"I believe counseling is required in my situation anyway," the Cardassian offered, before closing his eyes for a moment. "Sir, are you still there?" he called out, "tell us about the person you've been seeing?"
There was a brief silence on Dinslow's end, then he responded rather quietly. =^=S-she and I won't be seeing each other anymore, Zirvell. You see, we sort of broke up. =^= there was a hitch in the man's voice when he stated that. His inner thoughts going back to seeing her for the last time. =^=Ah well, you know there could be someone else meant for me. How about it Caroline, maybe you... me... =^= he went silent again for a moment. =^= Sorry, just trying my luck =^= giving a light laugh. =^= you are on a whole different level than I am, definitely a classy lady. Caroline.=^= another brief moment. =^= Huzzah! I found an opening that I can get into! Not where I can get to you or you to me for now but, hey I've got enough oxygen. =^= Dinslow said. =^= I'll see you on the flip side=^= his voice having an upbeat tone to it. =^= Thank you ladies and gentleman for keeping me company. I will see you later on.=^=
Zirvell fell silent for a moment trying to process the sadness in the man's voice. "I'm sorry to hear that sir," he finally answered, "and I'm glad you found a way in..." He looked sideways at Caroline as Dinslow seemed to sign off. "What does 'sort of' broke up mean?" He asked her.
"Dinslow how are you feeling?" Anya asked, picking up on an almost imperceptible change in the mans voice, as if his breathing was becoming laboured and reedy.
=^= I am feeling good Anya, as I said I found a way in. I have enough oxygen to keep me going. Don't worry, I am okay.=^= keeping up his bravado. He didn't want them to worry. =^= Look at that... I found a comfy place to have a seat for the... moment... and I have quite the view... =^= then he began to sing softly, the words becoming faint.
=^=Fill my heart with song
Let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words: please, be true
In other words, in other words: I love you.=^=
Then there was silence....
"Dinslow?" Zirvell looked to the two women in his company. "Dinslow, talk to us..."
There was some sound of breathing...then he spoke =^=I am here...I am okay=^= his breathing seeming to be loud in his own helmet. He frowned and blinked slowly, =^= was just getting the feels.=^= he was starting to get sleepy...
Zirvell cast his boss a worried look. "Something is wrong, this doesn't sound right," he whispered, "we need to get to him..."
Anya muted herself for a moment, sharing a look with Caroline breifly before looking directly at Zirvell. "We can't. As much as I hate to say it but the needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, as Ambassador Spock once said. We have to continue!"
She then turned her com-channel back on even as tears threatened to spill, "Dinslow, what do you see?"
...The line remined silent...
"Dinslow, do you read?"
The faintest of whispers,=^= the stars...beautiful...=^=
Dinslow slowly lifted his head =^= "time for supper... mother? It smells so good...I love you..."=^=
