CAG Meeting Dragon 22

Mission:
Old, New Ship
Location: USS Merlin, Deck 39, Drop Bay Upper Level
Timeline: MD8 Early Morning - Before Lt. Jones Lecture
2371 words - 4.7 OF Standard Post Measure
ON:
Sav was going through the fighter scan logs and having the CAG Office holographic desk plot those logs. She was impressed with the maneuvers, from experienced to inexperienced. The Merlin had somehow snagged extremely good pilots. During this time, she was also meeting pilots to get a better idea of how they felt they did and how they were integrating into life on board the Merlin.
She glanced at her padd, and the time, knowing the next pilot would soon be there, one Warrant Officer Farida Alleen. She looked over the picture and notations, a pretty Terran female on the Tall side at a little over 5' 11", but still all curves. She churred to herself, crystalline tea set at the ready, waiting.
Farida tucked at the most hateful uniform at least in her mind, but when visiting the boss it was best to leave a good first impression to ensure that later indiscretion regarding the uniform where more likely to be forgiven. The first real mission had offered quite some decent excitement, but she had missed out on truly leaving her mark she felt. That she she knew she was a novice pilot by all account fresh from training, but she wouldn't be a pilot if she did not regret missing out on showing off big time.
With that in mind she gave a sharp triple knock on the door instead of using the chime it was a habit from her days of growing up at home which she never had been able to shake off.
Sav heard the raps and smiled to herself, 'Nice'. She touched the holotable before her and the doors opened. She smiled to the young lady on the other side. "Warrant Officer Alleen, please, come in." Sav watched how Farida presented herself as she came into the room. In front of Farida was a humanoid 'skunkette', standing 5'6" at the ears, large sweeping tail behind her, looks showing around only 17 years of age if going by Terran standards.
Farida made her way in holding the regulatory three steps in front of the desk before coming to attention, "Warrant Officer Farida Alleen reporting in as requested." she said holding a stand at attention stance.
Sav churred gently, noticing Dragon 22's body actions versus 'the Suit'. Well, she would make it right if she could. First, was the greetings. She held out a hand, "Hi, I'm Lt. Saveena Tillatix, Official CAG and side job as a Bridge Command Specialist. Please, when not around Brass, or fighting Bogeys, call me Sav."
Farida took the offered hand assuming it was enough a reason to drop to a more relaxed stance provided that was even possible with the infernal uniforms, still she couldn't show her dislike so she took the hand in a brief, but firm grip. "Pleased to meet you meet you lieu" she started before correcting herself, "Sav." she wondered why she informal right away, she assumed it might have to do something with her species with which whom she was not familiar not that it would matter. What could matter was her fleet rank of course, but pilots tended to be more allowing towards their fleet brethren than most marine where. That said Farida did not feel to comfortable to start going around with short or nick names, but if the lieutenant insisted she would comply.
Sav looked at the uniform with a sigh, then back up to Farida, saying, "I'm sorry, warrant officer, I should have stressed informal meeting. This is just to get to know you, not anything under 'official' review, and now I have put you at a disadvantage. Would you like to go change, or, just weather it out?"
"Lieutenant?" Farida asked not sure what this was all about, she didn't know the woman outside of her voice and she was way to swift way to down to earth for her tastes. Tastes which where still very much formed by the instructors from flight school and boot camp before that. Of course her answer also showed her inexperience at not noticing just how obvious her distaste for the uniform had been, she was still quite convinced in her ability to hide that.
Sav blew a cleansing breath out of her muzzle, a wry smile plying about her lips. "You're uncomfortable in your uniform." She wiggled her ears, her whiskers moved up and down, as her tail flicked twice. "As you can see, I am a race with ears, tail, and whiskers, which means my race includes them, as well as stances and shifts into our normal, everyday speech." She motioned to the uniform, "Thus, I can tell from your subtle movements that you really don't like wearing that heavily starched dress wear. Even as Starfleet, I know I don't like wearing my dress Whites. Hence, why I asked, would you like to go change into relaxed ship board pilot wear? Or did you just want to get on with my questions of you?"
"I can manage lieutenant." Farida said unable to get a single clear read of the lieutenant, was she serious? Was she testing her? Was she truly going to full informal? He security was wavering at the moment without any firm ground to stand on she felt unsure of how to proceed and she prayed things would just turn back to normal.
Sav motioned to a chair, "Please, sit down." Behind her, the ornate, crystalline tea set moved of its own accord and floated over to the desk. Sav opened it, "What would you like to drink? Tea, Coffee, herbal tea, nothing?" She smiled, "This Tea set belonged to my grandma and was carved in the L'Tandrey Protectorate. I like drinking a sweet-spicey herbal tea, caffeine free, myself."
Farida took the offered seat, "Thank you lieutenant and I don't mind some coffee." she decided to stick with the rank for now it meant she had less to worry about as she tried to ensure she kept it all under control. As for the tea she never was a huge fan of the stuff in whatever shape it had been put in, truly not even coffee made her all that happy, but at times she fully understand the benefits it could have.
Sav pulled out a crystalline, thin square and put it in front of her. She moved over the tea pot, which had ornate carvings of Mephetians engaged in picnics, albeit in large tree branches instead of idyllic fields. The base glowed as the water heated up. Sav opened a far right container, the sound of a seal being released as she did, and she scooped out fresh coffee beans. She brought over a cylinder, then flipped over its top and put in the beans. When the top went back on, the minute sound of grinding was heard. Sav took a tea strainer and filled it with a good smelling tea blend. She put that into a cup, then grabbed another cup. The grinder had automatically stopped.
The tea pot whistled and Sav now put the grinder over the other cup. She poured the water over her tea strainer first, then put it into the cup to steep. Next, she poured the water into the grinder, filling it. The water level began going down, then disappeared, even though no coffee had appeared yet. Then, the now high pressure water flowed through the grind inside and a delightful smelling, medium dark roast cup of coffee was brewed. Sav set the cylinder aside, then handed Farida her cup of coffee. "There you go, Warrant Officer, freshly brewed."
Farida took the cup, "Thank you lieutenant." she said before putting it down as it was way to hot for immediate consumption.
Sav took a sip of her tea, even as the kit 'put' itself away. "I will clean the coffee maker later. Now that we are settled, how did you find the mission, and what do you think of your performance during it?"
"Bit hectic and honestly I could have done better. Sure I did my job, but I believe I could have done more." Farida purposefully avoided talking about kills, after all this was a fleet officer and that type tended to look down on the more violent train of thought of the marines. At least she had returned her fighter without taking damage so there was that little detail, might not mean much to the lieutenant, but the ground crews always appreciated a simply refuel and resupply over a patch job.
Sav churred gently, "Yeah, definitely a bit hectic, and, you actually did very well. It isn't often that fighters engage a mainline vessel and come away unscathed. You had the hard part, staying alive while helping Merlin by harrying the Mainline ship." She chuckled, "We in the asteroid field had it easier, dodging asteroids and engaging enemy fighters. Still, I tried to get you someone your own size as I was chasing a Scorpion over to you, but, Merlin called it off, so, he got away."
Sav now asked, "Anything you liked, didn't like about the fighter perimeter setup? For what you saw in the engagement, any thoughts about how the other fighters performed? And, don't you dare leave me out of this conversation. I had one kill, one assist, and had created the original setup. Remember, the only way to get better is to hear the bad as well as the good, and then to build on that."
"Hard to say, from a marine perspective we tend to keep a close guard which means we have less time to react to an hostile force, but can do so with more strength without straying to far from home. Specially seeing how limited we are in fighter craft as this ship is by all accounts not a carrier. Also parking this close to an asteroid field in unsafe territory is not something I would do personally I would keep my distance from it meaning I do not need to enter it and can simply react with time to spare to what is coming out of it. Of course circumstances where not there for that solution. Honestly lieutenant I do not feel I have enough experience to truly make any sense of it and I always favoured the CAS role for ground support so I spend more time on that than space born combat." Farida came back after a minute of silence as she pondered the question.
Sav took a sip of her tea while she listened to Farida. She churred gently when answering, "Thank you for the perspective, Warrant Officer." She winked, "And, for what your preferences are." She grinned, "By knowing this, I know what roles to put you into on the next mission if that particular role is needed. Are you checked out to fly a Broadsword Fighter besides the Raptor? Hmm, a Valkyrie also takes a pilot and gunner, so, same question for the Valkyrie."
"Broadsword I done my checks, Valkyries are not really on the marine equipment list so we did not check out on those. Should all be in my file unless command f'ed it up again." Farida let out a sigh at the last note she had to check out twice because the paperwork had vanished from her broadsword checks and she never liked to fly them to begin with.
Sav churred gently, "Take it easy. The checks are probably in the file, I will open it after you leave. I'm just getting your personal take on this. I know you like the Raptors, and that will definitely be your first choice, unless you wanted it to be a Broadsword?"
"I never been a fan of wrestling lieutenant and flying one of those is exactly like that. I mean I get why people love those rugged pieces of flying brick, but I much prefer something to do what I want when I want it." Farida said not wanting to upset the Broadsword fan club, but certainly not wanting to make anyone think she was part of it.
Sav churred out in humor, liking the 'wrestling' analogy. She nodded, "Check. Raptor main, Broadsword if the mission only calls for them and we are pilots down." Sav put her now empty tea cup to the side. "Like I said, this was an informal meeting to meet the 'you', and to observe how you handled the questions. With that perspective in mind, now I will go read your file after you leave. Any questions of me before I let you get back to your duties?"
"None, I just hope I can get some time to unpack." Farida said with a smile, she had the time before, but well there had been more interesting matters to take care off.
Sav stood up, "Thank you, and please, go unpack. If anybody stops you, tell them the CAG ordered you to finish getting situated, and call me if there's any problems." She nodded to the cup, "Fresh brewed from beans instead of replicator, so please take it with you to enjoy while unpacking. You can return the cup later."
Farida looked down at the cup and drained it she had been sipping it and she knew she would forget. "Thank you again and I best leave it here, I know my brain when it comes to little things, beside I don't feel like ending up floating above something when I do forget." With that she put the cup back down on the desk before heading out.
Sav nodded, "Not a problem, and you're welcome." Sav watched the Warrant officer leave, not quite comprehending what Farida meant with the last part of her parting words. Sav mused it was probably how Farida felt when she forgot something. Sav sat down as her Padd came over to her. Time to read up on Farida's records. And, she loved that Farida took her telekinesis in stride, not saying anything about the floating tea set. She sat down and began perusing the file, adding notes for schedules and fighters based on Farida's likes and dislikes.
