Cale had already called in the officers that were on the away mission with him (his first as XO). He was working in the Observation Lounge on Deck 3 getting the room prepped for the debrief. As he was still new to command, he wasn't quite sure how one of these went but he has just had one with Captain Barstow so he planned on running his like that one. He passed out PaDDs to every chair so the officers in attendance could be working from the same vantage point and the right page. After he had completed this task he took his own mission notes out and began refreshing some things in his own mind.
Elias strolled into the observation room . "Well looks like I'm the first one again." Elias never liked being the first to a meeting.
"Welcome, Lieutenant. Looks like you're making a habit of it," Cale said with a laugh. "It's OK though. It shows dedication."
Crewman David Scarlet briskly entered the Observation Lounge and snapped his foot down as soon as he entered the room. "Sir." He said firmly, addressing the XO. Half a second later he walked directly over to a chair and sat down. He lifted the PADD up and began to silently scan through the report in case he was to be questioned or if there was information he felt should be added.
Elias chuckled and walked over to the replicator set into the wall. "Coffee, double sweet, hot." He took a sip and looked around, "Can i get either of you anything?"
Scarlet barely looked up from the PADD. "No thank you sir." He replied briskly as he looked back down at the PADD and continued reading.
"I would love some coffee please," Caroline said arriving to the briefing.
"A mint hot chocolate, thank you," Cale said. "Greetings Doctor."
Elias handed out the mugs and took a seat. "I'm starting to feel like I main line this stuff."
Cale laughed at the comment. "I'm sure it's OK, Mr. Walker. We're waiting for Lieutenant Zitla and then we'll begin."
Elias took a sip of his coffee and rubbed his head. "When this mission is over we need to go to Risa and have a party."
"Yes!" Cale seconded. "I agree with the 1st Lieutenant on this one. Doctor, do you know where our Chief Science Officer is? Never mind we'll move on without her. OK people, I need an overview of your teams' dealings on Dathit. Doctor, how did your job go? I thought there were 4 pods. What happened to the fourth one?"
"I haven't seen Lieutenant Zitla since we returned from the asteroid," Caroline stated. "And we only managed to get 3 of the pods. There was enemy forces closing in on us. They took a shot at one of the pods as we were beaming out with the last two. I guess they disabled some of the transporter enhancers as only on materialized on the shuttle. I'm sorry commander, we did the best we could."
"OK thank you Doctor. There is no need for an apology, Doctor. The captain just wanted an answer as to to where the rest of the pods were. But that sounds like a plausible reply. I know we had to get out of there in haste. How is the 'thawing' process going, Dr. Miller?" Cale asked in even tones wincing a little.
"All three are reanimated and we are keeping them sedated," Caroline replied. "Well I won't lie to you. They seem sedated. Their body chemistry is off the charts. I have pumped them through with what i know does not harm Vulcans and Romulans today and with the highest dose we have. Hopefully they are truly sedated. We have extra security in sickbay in case, that is not the case."
"Thank you, Dr. Miller. Keep up with your evaluation and keep me and the captain appraised of your progress. Ensign Kalandra, Crewman Scarlet and I were able to gain access to the bridge and download most of the bridge logs and their sensor telemetry and I was able to discern their purpose for their being in this sector,"the Executive Officer orated. "They were no a scientific mission to discover the origins of a strange energy surge but that is as far as I was able to get on my own with our a language specialist or a cryptologist. Now does anyone else have anything they would like to say."
"Other than the female body we have shows signs of having recently given birth," Caroline said confused. "Well what would have seemed recently to her perspective from when they got put in those pods."
What happened to the baby? Were they really on a scientific mission or was that a cover? Or their culture to them had children on the ship at all times.
"No sir." Scarlet replied. He looked up from the PADD and laid it flat on the table. "Your report is very thorough and I have nothing to add."
"Thank you, Crewman Scarlet. Just for the record, you performed admirably on this mission. Now, Lieutenant Walker, what about you? Do you have anything to add?" Cale asked the Marine commander.
"Well the Romulans were a interesting surprise. They got past our check points and fooled our sensors effectively. We got lucky, it could have been a bad day for all involved."
"Once more I agree with Lieutenant Walker. It could have been much worse. Kudos to you and your Marines for keeping us from getting too much sand in our eyes, Cale said lightheartedly. "Does anyone have anything else to say before I dismiss us? Doctor, if you would be so kind to join me in my office after this debrief is done please."
Caroline swallowed her coffee that she had just sipped. "Yes Commander."
"So I take it we are done here. Dismissed," Cale said with finality and authority.
