ON:

After Saren sat back down John took a breath, "our next award is going to two officers, Lieutenants Ki and O'Reilly, front and center," he called with a smile and waited for the two officers to come up.

Cara almost choked on her drink, hearing her name called. She regained her composure and set her glass on the bar. Straightening her tunic, she fell into step with Michael and walked up to the CO.

Sav was sitting there thinking about what was happening with the officers. What Apollo did with their new Romulan officer was 'funny' Terran, but not funny Romulan or Mephetian. The Romulan and Terran Cultures were two different and Lt. Barel had not been on board long enough to learn anything of the senior staff and their quirks of humor. However, the reactions of Ki and O'Reilly spoke volumes about their being new and not expecting anything of this sort.

Kachiko noticed O'Reilly nearly choke on her beverage, which prompted a nearly silent chuckle.

The CO turned to the officers, "both of you performed at the highest level. You had no idea what we were dealing with when we found the Merlin and yet you jumped in to save the crewmembers we found," he said with a grateful smile, "we brought you to the crew because you both showed a decisiveness that is needed in those situations. Now, I am also hereby awarding you both the sciences departmental award, congratulations," he said and motioned both the XO and 2O forward with the boxes.

Kachiko stepped up and handed the award for Doctor Ki to Barstow. She politely nodded to the Doctor before stepping back.

Her time working under this CO had been short and Cara was surprised at having received and award so soon. For her...she wasn't in this for awards. The work was reward enough. But she managed to smile, gratefully, as she accepted the box with her medal in it. "Thank you, Sir," she said, softly and stepped back

Michael had been surprised to be called up, as in his head he was doing his job. He took the award and smiled the officers presenting it to him. "Sirs I thank you for the recognition. However, it is merely part of being a doctor. To first do no harm..."

(tag, reactions? I'll come back and reply to anything you put in :))

"You're both very welcome, and those are deserved," John replied with a smile and saluted each before giving a brief nod they could step down then turned, "Lieutenant Commander Tillatix, front and center," he ordered.

It was Sav's turn to be totally surprised. Her fur fluffed out, her ears flicked, even as she tilted her head with a questioning "churr?" coming from within her chest. She did a quick shake of herself, stood up, and made her way to the podium.

Once Sav had come up Apollo turned to face her, "Commander, you have been through hell, but, you still kept your cool and managed to get yourself and one of our younger crew to safety. On a personal note, I cannot thank you enough for helping my daughter," he replied with a smile, "now, your service on this ship has been outstanding and we have seen you lead by example. Because of that we are awarding you the Silver Quill award!" (Sav won out with a total of 10 logs last month, and it was close with a few of the crew sitting at 8 or 9. Great job!)

A questioning "churr?" sounded once again as Sav had not heard of this award. She graciously accepted it though, saying, "Thank you Sir. I only did my duty, and slept for six months, and really don't deserve anything like this, but.. Thank you, Sir."

"You're welcome," he replied with a smile and gave the woman a salute then a brief nod that she could step down before looking out at the crowd, "there are two other officers I'd like to call tonight, Commanders Bayushi and Llewellyn.'

After Apollo finished, Kachiko took the opportunity to step down and briefly embrace Save'ena, "The boss is right, you did great, Savvy. I'm glad you're here aboard with me now."

Sav lightly blushed at the out of character hug by Kachiko. She churred back in pleasure and whispered in return, "I.. uh... okay, thanks... and Ah'm glad tah be here within yah also, Kachiko." After the embrace was over, Sav turned and stepped down from the podium and made her way back to her table, and drink. She was looking forward to the dancing to start as she could now dance freely without worrying about how her insides were reacting to the now gone mesh. She looked at Kachiko, then around for Reiko, Cai, and Sierra, knowing she wanted to have a dance with each.

Llewellyn looked at Bayushi and then to Barstow with a questioning gaze.

"Commanders, you came with me from the start of this search and have both stepped into your command roles better than I hoped," he started and looked each in the eye, "your help behind the curtain has been just as valuable as the help in front of it. So, in appreciation of your service I am awarding you both the command award," he replied and handed each a box with the command department ribbon.

"Thank you, Sir. This is most appreciated," Cale said with a light bow and a look back at Commander Bayushi.

A pale white eyebrow arched. Kachiko hadn't anticipated being commended. She cared little for commendations, at least for herself.

O'Hara stood in the back, quietly sipping on a beverage. She loved a good party as much as the next person. In her Academy days, she threw some of the best parties on campus... However she decided that it would actually be best to stay a little low key until she settled in just a little bit more. This was all just a little bit too much pomp and circumstance for her taste. It was more like an Academy graduation ceremony so far than an actual party.

Miles finds comfort in his nicely made bloodwine, unsure of how he will remember all these names, and interested at the variety of races he sees before him, which is definitely something he would have never encountered aboard a Cardassian vessel. He will try to place names, with faces, with positions, and gives up as the bloodwine helps him begin to unwind. He mutters aloud, but more to himself, "There are some very pretty ladies out there, maybe I should ask one to dance..."

Cara quietly made her way back to her spot at the bar and emptied her drink, now diluted from the melted ice, and set the glass down on the bartender's side of the bar, tapping the rim of the empty glass. One more then she needed to go home. She needed to get into something more comfortable than this dress uni and go over some more requisition forms before turning in for the night.

Michael made his way back to the bar. He had a mind for some sake and hoped that he would find some there. He would be loath to admit it but all of this ceremony had made him a little twitchy.

Barstow took a breath and looked out over the crew quietly before speaking, ""ladies and gentlemen, I want to thank you all for what you've done and will do. I know all this just to hand out a few awards seems a little out there, however, tonight also marks our last night before we set out on our new mission," he started and pressed a button to open a blast shield on the left of the room, "I present the refit USS Merlin, back because of all of your hard work!"

Sav immediately looked over and out the window, critically looking over the ship. She loved flying with Merlin and really wanted the ship to be back to 100%. But, with shipyard engineers, one never knew how good a job they did until the shakedown cruise.

Apollo grinned, "now, get to know each other, drink and have fun, but remember, I expect everyone on ship and at their post at zero seven hundred....please don't make me have to get the EMH to drive," he added in mock begging voice before stepping down from the podium.

Cara looked over at Michael and said, "looks like I have a busy night ahead of me," then she shoved her half full glass over to the edge of the counter and said to the bartender, "can I get a large coffee to go, please." Once the cup was set in front of her she picked it up and lifted it in a mock toast to Michael then said, "see ya in the morning, Boss," and made her way through the partyers to the exit and headed to her temporary quarters to change and pack.

At that final comment Miles will shudder. He will then start mingling, trying to get to match peoples faces to names, which he will probably fail at. He will also ask several ladies if they want to dance, should they decline his patent answer with a British accent is, "Then may I wish you a good night fair maiden."

Saren stayed long enough to introduce himself to the other senior officers and to make sure to live up to the Captain's expectations. Once he was able to, he left the event.

Sav snorted out in humor at Apollo's quip. She knew that would not come to pass, not with her as CFCO. She looked over the room and felt a pang of loss at wondering where Wynn was in all of this. Sav truly hoped Wynn was okay as she wanted her assistant back, truly. There was also Melody.. and, where was David? She really wanted a dance with him. Or, any dance, really, would be nice. She moved over to position herself near the dance floor, finishing her Scotch, and then looking about to see if she would be invited, or would have to go invite.

In his rounds, Miles had not had anyone accept a dance with him. His bloodwine empty he was heading back to the bar when he spotted a potential partner. Approaching Sav he says in a British/Cardassian lilt, "Commander, you appear ready to dance, may I be of some assistance as a partner? I'm Marbim, or MIles, the new Chief of Operations..."

Sav perked up as the newcomer approached. His collar showed Lt. jg, while his delightful face ridges and particular ears said Cardassian. Her ears focused full onto him as he came into her personal space, and then she churred gently at hearing his accent. She responded in kind, "Why, Sirrah, Ah would be dahlighted. Ah'm Save'ena, given name, butcha can call me Sav, fer sure." She curtsied to him and continued, "Pahlease, lead t'e way to t'e dance floor. Ah ama ready to dance... by the stars, Ah am so ready tah dance." She held out her arm for him to take.

Taken aback at first, Miles' joy at having someone accept his invite to the dance floor radiates from head to toe, "Milady, let us 'cut the rug' as they say." Miles will gently take Sav's arm and head for an empty spot on the floor.

Kachiko just sat silently, leaning back against the bar. She was not a dancer, but she enjoyed watching others dance.

"Commander?" Kachiko was drawn out of her brief reverie by Cai's voice. Turning to look at the girl, "Yes, sweetie?"

"Should I wake Reiko to get her on the ship?" Kachiko sighed and shook her head, "No. You are cleared for the Hiei's systems and while I move Reiko, I need you to fly Hiei aboard. I will inform the OOD that I am giving you clearance."

The Cadet nodded, after which Kachiko remarked, "Dismissed!"

On the dance floor, Sav's whiskers moved forward to show her interest in her partner. Her tail shook once as she grinned to him, her rather sharp, needle like teeth showing in that smile. She asked, "Miles, what type dance wouldya prefer? Ah have a direct line to t'e Maestro an can ask fer ahnyt'ing, ayuh. Ah... am used tah dancing at electronica type dance places, justa FYI, fer sure." Sav's voice had an exotic lilt to it, besides sounding as from the 'South', as it was called. Her voice had pitch and tone, very suitable for singing, and she used the full range to talk with and be interested in and interesting to her date.

[Not sure what the music is playing but] Miles is pleased that the extra classes he took in ballroom dance may pay off, if not, then he will follow Sav's lead on what motions he should be making [OH GOD - NO TWERKING] After their first few steps Miles asks, "I know these functions aren't commonplace, but it sounds like the Merlin is gaining almost a brand new crew, I haven't had a chance to look everything over before my transfer, what happened to her?"
